Ensuring rice and vegetable production

After the Tet holiday, the bustling production atmosphere has been recorded in the paddy fields in Hoa Vang District.

On the morning of February 15 (the 6th day of the first lunar month), in the paddy fields of Duong Son Village, Hoa Chau Commune, Mr. Nguyen Ba Dao and many other farmers rushed to go to the fields to check and take care of rice.

In the 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop, his family produces a total area of 6 acres of rice (about 3,000m2). Before Tet, he carefully checked traps and prevented rat bites.

Mr. Dao said that the rice crop has no pests or diseases, so it is growing well and is preparing to enter the flowering stage. “We are very hopeful about the productivity of this year's rice crop. Hopefully the weather will be favourable so farmers can have a bumper crop" Mr. Dao said.

Mr. Ngo Van Sinh, Director of the Hoa Tien 1 General Business and Production Services Cooperative in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, said that during Tet days, cooperative members often visited the fields. To ensure efficiency and success in the rice production season, the cooperative also mobilised farmers to actively kill rats and detect harmful pests and diseases to take timely treatment measures.

As for the clean, organic vegetable production in the area, farmers focused on ensuring adequate supply for the market, as well as sowed new vegetable seeds.

Director of the Hoa Phong Agricultural Production Service Cooperative Nguyen Si also said that farmers in the area are focusing on agricultural production after Tet. In the winter-spring rice crop of 2023-2024, the cooperative produces about 225 hectares of rice. Through inspection, the percentage of rice damaged by rats is about 2%. For about 15 ha of peanut growing area, farmers are still clearing grass so that the trees can grow stably, ensuring productivity at the end of the season.

Similarly, many farmers in vegetable growing areas citywide take advantage of the sunny weather to go to the fields to plow and plant a variety of agricultural products.

Mr. Tran Van Hoang, the Director of the La Huong Safe Vegetable Production Cooperative in Hoa Tho Dong Ward, Cam Le District, said that since the second day of Tet, many farmers went to the fields to take care of vegetables. The main types of vegetables include cabbage, squash, gourd, luffa, and green chili.

Before Tet, the output of vegetables and tubers in the city was abundant and purchased at stable prices. Currently, farmers proactively grow many other types of short-term vegetables in order to meet people's needs after Tet.

Fishermen excitedly prepare to set sail at the beginning of the year

At the Tho Quang Fishing Port and Wharf in Da Nang’s Son Tra District, many fishermen are seen rushing to prepare fishing boats, fuel and essentials for the first offshore fishing trips after Tet.

At the beginning of the Lunar Year of the Dragon 2024, many fishermen take the advantage of relatively favourable weather conditions to reach out to the sea.

Fisherman Le Van Khang from Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District, said that on the 10th day of the first lunar month, he will focus on maintaining fishing boats and preparing necessities, food, and human resources for the first offshore fishing trip at the beginning of the lunar year. His logistics service fleet has 5 ships with a capacity of over 800CV/each. "I hope for a safe and successful trip" Mr. Khang said.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, the owner of the fishing boats DNa 90195 and DNa 91282 in Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, said that his ship will depart for the first offshore fishing trip of the lunar year on the 12th day of the first lunar month. The preparation of necessities and fuel for the trip is underway.

According to Mr. Binh, the first offshore fishing trip of the lunar year is important, so fishermen will choose a day suitable for their age to go out to sea, with the hope of a year of good luck and bumper hauls.

Mr. Nguyen Lai, Head of Tho Quang Fishing Port and Wharf Management Board, said that since the 6th day of Tet, there has been an increasing number of fishing boats setting sail at the beginning of the lunar year. Before, during and after Tet, the management board always assigns duty schedules and strengthens forces to support the handling of procedures for entering and leaving the wharf.

Logistics service facilities in the port have also proactively prepared enough ice, food, water, gasoline, etc. to meet fishermen’s demand for going out to sea.
