As part of their ongoing working trip to the US, a delegation of Da Nang’s officials, led by municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh, visited the Ampere Company headquartered in Portland City, the US.

During the meeting, Vice Chairman Minh introduced an overview of the city's investment and business environment, and preferential and support policies, for investors in the semiconductor field, as well as its economic development orientations in the coming time.

He added that the purpose of the working trip was to have in-depth contact with partners who showed their keen interest in promoting cooperation and investment in semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) in Da Nang.

Determining semiconductor as a growth driver, Da Nang is on way to build a project on developing semiconductor chips and microchips in the city, as well as specific mechanisms and policies to attract experts and investors at both home and abroad  to work, research, and cooperate in training human resources for semiconductor and AI, and create a more attractive investment environment for businesses in the fields.

The city leader pledged that the city will always accompany and support investors in implementing projects and production and business activities in the city, aiming to share common values and benefits.

Receiving the Da Nang delegation, Technical and Production Director of the Ampere Company Rohit Vidwans said he was very interested in the semiconductor industry in Viet Nam in general, and the potential for the development of the industry in Da Nang in particular.

He also highly appreciated Da Nang's development prospects. He informed that his company planned to expand its operations in Viet Nam in the next 5 years to develop more labs as well as develop the human resources team in the S-shaped country aside from the company branch in Ho Chi Minh City established in 2018.

The three groups of personnel that the company is targeting include software engineers; circuit assembly, testing, and packaging engineers (ATP); and design engineers.

According to Mr. Rohit Vidwans, Da Nang is a favourable location to locate the company's second office in Viet Nam in the near future, because the city is able to meet the requirements of high quality engineering standards, and good connection infrastructure.

Moreover, the issue of intellectual property protection was also of great concern to the Ampere Company. He proposed Da Nang to come up with solutions to protect intellectual property rights for the company's products if the company invests in the city.

"We are committed to providing maximum support for information security and intellectual property protection for the company's products thanks to the city's well-invested security system at the Software Park No. 2.  We are willing to invite cybersecurity experts to enhance security" Mr. Minh emphasised.

The cooperation between Da Nang and Ampere Company is one of the important partner establishments in the process of creating a semiconductor microchip ecosystem for the city, creating a premise for realising the vision of "building a Silicon Beach" in Da Nang in the near future.
