Improving seafood exploitation capacity and combating IUU fishing
In 2023 alone, the fisheries sector recorded a 2.8% increase in the exploitation output to reach 36,677 tonnes against compared to 2022.
On average, the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port received 45-50 ship arrivals and 350-400 truck arrivals every day. A total of 250-300 tonnes of seafood were unloaded through the port.
Mr. Nguyen Lai, Head of the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port Management Board, informed that the departure and arrival of fishing vessels were closely managed by relevant units.
At the fishing port, there is a representative office for fisheries control. 100% of ships arriving and leaving the port are required to declare, record and submit exploitation logs and reports, and monitor seafood output through the port according to regulations.
The management board regularly requires fishing boat owners and fishermen to strictly monitor the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, as well as maintain cruise monitoring equipment during the fishing process.
In the coming time, the management board will continue to coordinate with functional bodies to strengthen supervision, inspection, rectification and strict handling of violations, especially acts of combating IUU fishing.
According to the Da Nang Department of Fisheries, there are 1,192 registered fishing vessels in total. 286 of them operate in inshore areas, 311 in coastal areas and 595 in offshore areas. 316 are unregistered fishing vessels.
For fishing vessels that are not eligible for fishing activities, the unit has coordinated with localities to inspect the current status of fishing vessels' operations, create a watch list, closely supervise and strictly handle cases of fishing vessels intentionally operating without all required documents.
To date, no fishing vessels in Da Nang have violated foreign waters and arrested or handled. There have been no cases of violations for losing fishing vessel monitoring signals for more than 10 days and other violations for certification and traceability of seafood.
To contribute to quickly removing the "yellow card" warning and problems in managing aquatic exploitation activities. The Fisheries Bureau proposes the city's agricultural sector and localities continue to effectively implement the support policies, as well as soon build a model to increase the value of aquatic products associated with product consumption.
