Forum seeks solutions to promote Da Nang's innovative startup ecosystem

Within the framework of the Da Nang Venture and Angel Summit (DAVAS) 2024, the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology organised a forum on the role of each party in promoting the innovative startup ecosystem on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Le Duc Vien, Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology, said that DAVAS 2024, the first of its kind in the city, brought initial effective and useful connections to the city's innovative startups. The two-day event served as a premise for his unit to ensure the success of the next events.

It also provided the good opportunity for domestic and foreign partners and investors to learn about Da Nang and its dynamic innovative startup ecosystem full of potential and strengths.

He expressed his hope that elements in the Da Nang startup ecosystem will join efforts to make the city become one of the major socio-economic centres of the country and ASEAN, a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, and a solid piece of the international innovative startup ecosystem network.

Mr. Pham Duy, Head of the Investment Connection and Training Department of the National Innovation and Start-up Support Centre, informed that the number of innovative startups in three big cities of Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang accounted for about 94% of the country’s total. The Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology to be the focal point for establishing 3 national innovation and start-up support centres in the abovementioned cities.

The National Innovation and Startup Support Centre in Da Nang is in charge of consulting, supporting, and connecting startup networks; and cooperating with localities, educational and training institutions, science and technology organisations, and other political - social - professional organisations. Additionally, it supports procedures, as well as connects experts, advisors, and domestic and foreign investors, to develop regional ecosystems.

Besides, the centre operates centralized service models; provides innovative startup support services; connects innovative startup activities with high-tech parks, information technology parks, technology trading floors and technology centres; and transfers scientific and technological advances to localities in the region and the whole country.

At the same time, it is responsible for providing public services to support the innovative startup ecosystem, technology testing services, and new business models; incubating, training and promoting business; appealing for investment for innovative startups; building, upgrading and operating an innovative startup information portal and an open creative startup platform.

Also at the forum, presentations on the development orientation of Da Nang's innovative startup ecosystem in the coming time; experience in building and maintaining an angel investment network from Singapore; overview of the role of social entrepreneurship and science and technology development in sustainable development goals; experience in developing an innovative startup ecosystem at Republic Polytechnic; and the role of the National Innovation and Startup Support Centre were presented.
