Supporting female traders in digital transformation

Thanks to the flexible direction of the Women's Union at all levels, and the acumen and initiative of each cadre and member, the activities of the municipal Women's Union and its chapters citywide are gradually being innovated in terms of content and methods to fit for the digital age.

The programme
The programme "Accompanying female traders in digital transformation" held at the An Hai Bac Market, Son Tra District, by the Da Nang Women's Union in coordination with its chapter in Son Tra District and the district's Market Management Board.

According to Vice Chairwoman of the municipal Women's Union Nguyen Thi Huyen, the unit has flexibly organised many creative and practical activities, aimed at helping female traders proactively apply digital technology platforms to promote and support consumption connections, thereby increasing business and trading efficiency. This has helped enhance women's economic power, meeting integration requirements, and contributing to the implementation of the national digital transformation strategy and the city's socio-economic development goals in the current period.

In addition, a number of activities have been organised to support female traders in digital transformation, green connection and circular economic development at the Tuy Loan Market (Hoa Vang District) and An Hai Bac Market (Son Tra District), attracting nearly 300 female traders and female members. The participants have been introduced to the benefits of e-commerce on ZaloOA and live streaming marketing.

Furthermore, the municipal Women's Union has organised training courses on improving the capacity for officials and female traders in Hoa Vang and Son Tra districts. Also, it has actively got involved in consulting, connecting, displaying, introducing, promoting and selling products related to green economy and community-based tourism, as well as setting up a digital transformation guidance and livestream point at Tuy Loan Market.

Ms. Kim Thu, a retailer of hairpins and cosmetics at the Son Tra District-based An Hai Bac Market, shared the development of digital technology, especially COVID-19 crisis, changed people’s shopping habits. Traders are struggling with poor sales and many have opted to close down as people now prefer buying goods from social networking sites and online sales channels.

She, therefore, highlighted the meaningfulness of the programme "Accompanying female traders in digital transformation" in assisting members, women doing business, and female traders in applying information technology and e-commerce solutions to increase purchasing power at traditional markets in the context of Modern and online shopping channels recording strong growth.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Kim Hoan, a retailer of fabrics and cosmetics at the Tuy Loan Market, e-commerce is growing and is an inevitable trend, especially for young people. Along with traditional business, being instructed on how to use technology equipment and how to livestream helps her gain more confidence and experience in selling through digital platforms.

Notably, the municipal Women’s Union regularly coordinates with reporters and speakers who are experts with a lot of experience in digital transformation and green economy to raise awareness for female traders about knowledge and skills in applying information technology and digital transformation to serve production and business, and about how to approach e-commerce business forms and knowledge about green economy and circular economy.

The union, at the same time, creates more conditions for women doing business to exchange, share, connect and support each other in production and business activities. It also encourages more women to join the Union, thereby enhancing the economic power and status of women.

From a series of activities, a network of women doing business has been established to introduce and promote their products to consumers, supporting each other and contributing to the city’s socio-economic development.
