Year-end job market: Demand exceeds supply
Companies and businesses across Da Nang are accelerating production to serve the year-end market, which is leading to a growing demand for labour recruitment. Meanwhile, the labour supply in the city is still limited, making it difficult for businesses to recruit. Many attractive incentive policies are implemented by businesses to attract workers.

Many orders, difficulties in recruitment
Given the situation of high orders, from the beginning of September 2024, Murata Manufacturing Viet Nam Co., Ltd., located in Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, plans to open 4 - 6 new production lines. However, because the number of workers recruited in the month is not enough, the company is forced to made cutback, opening only 3 new production lines, transferring the remaining 2 lines to October 2024.
To have more workers, the company recently participated in direct recruitment at the job fair organised by the Da Nang Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in coordination with the Lien Chieu District People’s Committee, but the results were not as expected.
“The company hopes to recruit 200 general workers, 20 technical staff and 3-5 trading staff. However, most workers only consider information about the company as a basis to give later decision.”, said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Dung, the Deputy Head of Administration - Human Resources Department, Murata Manufacturing Vietnam Co., Ltd.
According to Ms. Dung, from now until the end of the year, the number of orders of the company will increase. In order to meet production needs, on average, each month, the company needs to recruit from 200 general workers or more, along with 25-30 people for technical staff and office staff positions.
In a similar vein, the Daiwa Vietnam Co., Ltd. located in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park has received a large number of orders, along with plans to build 2 new factories in 2025, so it is in an urgent need of a large labour force.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu Uyen, the Head of the company’s General Department, to meet production needs and factory expansion, the company needs to recruit an average of 300 workers per month, but in reality, only 1/3 of the demand can be recruited. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the Thuan Phuoc Seafood and Trading Joint Stock Company in Son Tra District needs to recruit 400 workers to ensure the progress of year-end shipments, as well as the production plan for 2024.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Linh, the Head of the company’s Organisation and Administration Department, in the last months of the year, the company has a very large number of orders, even having contracts for 2025.
However, the biggest difficulty now is the lack of labour. In previous years, the company recruited 600 - 700 workers each year, but since the beginning of the year, it has only recruited more than 400 workers.
In an effort to balance the production situation in the context of labour shortage, with signed orders, the company must speed up labour recruitment to ensure the progress of goods delivery. As for unsigned contracts, the company requests to postpone the deadline until the old orders are resolved and enough workers are recruited.
Launching policies to attract workers
Explaining the difficulty in recruitment, the representative of the General Department, Daiwa Vietnam Co., Ltd. said that after COVID-19, a number of workers moved their resettlement places; others moved to the tourism - service industry when the city recovered tourism. On the other hand, the large number of businesses in the city created great competition in recruitment, workers had many opportunities to choose the place of work.
To attract workers and keep them on their toes, businesses have many preferential policies that are superior to those prescribed by law. At the Thuan Phuoc Seafood and Trading Joint Stock Company, female workers with children aged under 6 receive a subsidy of VND 500,000/month; those with children aged under 1 are subject to a 6-hour work day but receive 8 hours of salary. All workers are supported with VND200,000/person/month for gasoline.
The Pi Vina Da Nang Co., Ltd., located in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, has a policy of re-hiring former garment workers. Accordingly, former workers returning to work in October and November 2024 will receive a bonus of VND 2.5 million/person and a 13th-month salary bonus including previous work experience.
Former workers returning to work from October 2024 to April 2025 will have their seniority and experience maintained, and their basic salary will increase up by VND300,000/month. In addition, workers who come to the company to submit their application will be able to participate in a lucky draw with attractive prizes.
Meanwhile, to keep up with production progress in the context of difficult recruitment, in addition to applying many policies to attract workers, the Daiwa Vietnam Co., Ltd. has introduced a part-time recruitment plan for students.
According to the company representative, instead of working in service or sales jobs after school to earn income, students can come to work at the company, sign a contract and receive a salary according to their ability. Students can register for working hours outside of school hours. The company arranges and assigns the simplest tasks for students to do without having to undergo training.
“This is a new plan that has just been agreed upon by the board of directors. The company will send recruitment information to universities, thereby effectively exploiting this seasonal labour source”, said Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu Uyen.
