Enterprises operating in the city are aiming to develop production in a sustainable direction by using environmentally friendly raw materials, minimising waste and recycling. The Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC) is one of the bright spots in green production in Da Nang.

This enterprise has proactively applied many clean, modern, environmentally friendly technologies and has been recognised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment as a product and packaging recycling unit in accordance with the provisions of the national Law on Environmental Protection.

Like DRC Da Nang, the Tan Long Packaging Company Limited, headquartered in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, is a unit that regularly invests in modern machinery a

nd equipment for cleaner production, energy saving and minimising waste discharged to the environment. Also outstandingly, this company has become one of the first two enterprises in the city to build a smart factory model.

To achieve the goal of going greening, from the first quarter of 2023, the March 29 Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company has decided to stop producing cotton towels - a product that has been associated with the company's operations for 47 years, carrying a national brand, high-quality Vietnamese goods, with a revenue proportion of more than 20%.

According to the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, cleaner production and the use of renewable energy are solutions that industrial enterprises in the city are choosing to move towards circular economic production.

For the time being, a number of factories and enterprises in local industrial parks have invested in solar power systems.

These units not only contribute to reducing the load on the national power system but also significantly save electricity costs and help to increase competitiveness in production.

“Cleaner production and the use of renewable energy are solutions that businesses are choosing to move towards circular economic production. Therefore, the city’s authorities always encourage businesses to apply advanced technology to help reduce energy consumption,” said Ms. Le Thi Kim Phuong, the Director of the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade.

According to Mr. Ha Ngoc Thong, Director of Asia Architecture and Trade Co., Ltd., in addition to implementing electricity-saving solutions such as replacing all incandescent fluorescent lamps with energy-saving LED lamps, the company has installed an automatic energy management system that helps to monitor and adjust electricity consumption levels suitable for each time. This helps save about 10 - 15% of electricity costs each month.

At a recent national conference on energy efficiency and conservation in Da Nang in 2024, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, the Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development under the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that Da Nang's green transformation strategy was a very reasonable trend.

Accordingly, businesses operating in Da Nang need to continue green transformation and apply sustainable consumption and distribution measures, digital solutions and green logistics.

“The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to accompany businesses across the country, including those in Da Nang”, Mr. Vu affirmed.

According to Mr. Juhern Kim, Chief Representative of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Viet Nam, the Da Nang government and businesses are making great efforts for green production and reducing energy consumption, towards the Netzero goal - according to the general commitment made by the Vietnamese government.

For this work to be long-term and sustainable, it is necessary to think about how the current law can best support this process and mobilise the participation of all parties to participate.

Sharing more about this issue, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, the Director of the Department of Energy Saving and Sustainable Development under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, hopes that Da Nang will not only be a typical model for the environmental protection but also for efficient energy use. Therefore, the participation of enterprises in this issue is very meaningful and practical for enterprises as well as the locality.

Enterprises also agree with the viewpoint that for green development, investment and innovation in technology and modern equipment is the top important solution. Investing in modern technology can improve product quality and reduce environmental pollution and boost energy saving.

With regard to this issue, Ms. Le Thi Kim Phuong said that, in recent years, the city has promoted economic restructuring towards sustainable development, promoting green economy and circular economy.

According to Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly on the organisation of urban government and piloting a number of specific policy mechanisms for Da Nang’s development, the policy of developing a green economy associated with building an environmentally-friendly city is being more strongly implemented by the municipal government.

Aiming for clean production and a green economy not only ensures the existence and development of enterprises but also demonstrates the determination and strong commitment of the business community to the city’s sustainable development.
