Da Nang hopes to lure more visitors by opening new air routes

Da Nang has so far had a total of 23 domestic and international routes. In 2025, many new air routes are expected to be opened between the central coastal and Incheon (South Korea), Bangkok (Thailand), Osaka (Japan), Yangon (Myanmar), Russia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, promising to bring more visitors to the city.

In recent times, the local tourism industry has concentrated on promoting the opening of new air routes, which has been demonstrated through the organisation of a series of working sessions with domestic and foreign airlines.

There are now seven domestic flights to Da Nang including Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Da Lat, Hai Phong, Can Tho, Phu Quoc and Buon Ma Thuot.

Meanwhile, there are 16 international routes connecting with Da Nang from Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Taipei - Taichung - Kaohsiung (Taiwan - China), Macau (China), Hong Kong (China), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Incheon - Busan - Daegu - Cheongju (South Korea), Narita (Japan), and Manila (the Philippines).

Last year, Da Nnag already reopened international air routes with Vientiane (Laos), and Ahmedabad (India) in tandem with promoted the opening of new air routes  to Cheongju (South Korea) and Taichung (Taiwan, China).

In addition, two new airlines have operated for the first time in Da Nang. In particular, Malaysia Airlines operates the Kuala Lumpur - Da Nang route with a frequency of 7 flights per week using B737-800 aircraft. Hong Kong Airlines launches the Hong Kong - Da Nang route with a frequency of 7 flights/week. Citilink Indonesia, the low-cost Indonesian airline, operates charter flights on the Jakarta (Indonesia) - Da Nang route. On average, Da Nang receives 111 flights/day, including 52 international and 59 domestic flights.

According to Vietjet Air, the direct flight route connecting Da Nang with Ahmedabad is operated with a frequency of two round trips per week. After about 4 months of operating this route, the airline has served nearly 10,000 passengers travelling between the two cities, opening up many opportunities to expand cooperation, and develop tourism, trade and cultural exchange between Viet Nam and India.

Based on the achieved results, in 2025, many new air routes will be opened to bring more passengers to Da Nang. Specifically, starting from January 23, Air Premia operated the Da Nang - Incheon (South Korea) route using wide-body aircraft, with a frequency of 4 flights/week. Vietnam Airlines will reopen the Bangkok - Da Nang air route on March 30 and the Osaka (Japan) - Da Nang route on July 3. Myanmar Airways International plans to launch the Yangon (Myanmar) - Da Nang route, with a frequency of 2 flights/week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting on April 2.

For the Manila (the Philippines) - Da Nang route, Royal Air will continue to operate charter flights and replace wide-body aircraft with a frequency of 4 days/flight. Meanwhile, Citi Links will continue operating the charter flights on the Jakarta (Indonesia) - Da Nang route from March to October 2025.

Such airlines as Crystal Bay and Anex in Russia and Eastern Europe are scheduled to open new flights connecting Eastern European countries with Da Nang from March 30 to the end of October 2025.

In the Middle East, Emirates Airlines is accelerating the opening of flights operating on the Dubai - Bangkok - Da Nang route with a frequency of 7 flights/week. The route is expected to operate from June 1, 2025.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines revealed that it will resume the Da Nang - Bangkok route with a frequency of 4 flights/week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays in the coming time, and increase the frequency of flights to 7 flights/week. Vietnam Airlines will run the Da Nang - Osaka flights with a frequency of 4 flights/week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Previously, the national flag carrier had operated 2 international routes to Da Nang from Seoul (South Korea) with a frequency of 7 flights/week and from Tokyo (Japan) with a frequency of 7 flights/week.

Thailand and Japan were named among the top 10 international tourist markets for Da Nang in 2024. Therefore, the exploitation of international air routes to Da Nang contributes to meeting the travel, tourism and trade needs between Viet Nam and the two above-mentioned places. Currently, Vietnam Airlines is the only airline operating flights from Japan to Da Nang with a frequency of 7 flights/week.

The reopening of the Da Nang - Osaka route in July will contribute to increasing the number of direct flights from Da Nang to the Japanese market to 2, with a frequency of 11 flights/week. As a national flag carrier, the airline will continue to accompany the city in researching and evaluating the market, hoping to have more international routes in the near future” informed a representative of Vietnam Airlines.

The launching of new air service between Da Nang and new international tourist markets offers a great opportunity and potential for the city’s tourism industry.

Specifically, this helps Da Nang reduce its rely on some traditional tourist markets, creating more balance and stability for the tourism industry; and access new markets such as Russia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East to exploit the tourism potential of these regions.

At the same time, the initiative contributes to enhancing Da Nang's position in the world tourism map. For example, routes connecting to major centres such as Dubai help Da Nang affirm its position as an important international tourist destination. Additionally, the presence of major airlines such as Emirates contributes to promoting the image of Da Nang in the international arena, thereby attracting the attention of tourists and investors worldwide, said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Deputy Director of Hai Van Cat International Travel Company.
