Upgrading coastal check-in locations to attract tourists

Some check-in models and decorative miniatures along beaches in Da Nang have been dismantled and degraded, making the beach entertainment and recreation space lack highlights. To continue attracting visitors, the city's tourism industry needs to have solutions to sustainably develop models, thereby enhancing the experience for residents and tourists.

In July 2024, the ‘Da Nang Beach Flower Street’ check-in model opened along a section of Vo Nguyen Giap beach route from the Vo Van Kiet - Vo Nguyen Giap intersection to Sao Bien Beach with 13 decorative clusters, creating a special highlight for the coastal route.

The beach flower street contributed to adding color to the coastal space, bringing liveliness and creating a space for residents and tourists to go for a stroll and take souvenir photos. However, the model was dismantled after a few months of operation, leaving many monotonous and unsynchronized spaces.

As observed, there are a few simple decorative miniatures along coastal routes from Son Tra to Ngu Hanh Son districts, including the symbols of the words "Danang Beach", "Da Nang", "Son Tra" or small check-in models decorated to serve some events, festivals, and Tet.

Many people believed that the removal of check-in points makes the coastal space less attractive and expressed their hope that the city will soon have a solution to develop new check-in points to both enhance the tourist experience and promote the image of local beaches.

Huynh Thi Thuong, a resident of An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District, said that beautiful highlights will lure more people and tourists to take check-in photos, contributing to creating a bustling atmosphere for coastal areas. She stressed the need for the city to invest in beautiful miniatures that are artistic and in harmony with the nature of the coastal area. Also, attention is paid to the maintenance and long-term use to avoid rapid deterioration.

Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Vi from Ho Chi Minh City, a frequent visitor to Da Nang, believed that the installation art models, check-in points with local cultural themes, and unique structures will bring interesting experiences and attract more domestic and international tourists. Check-in points need to be arranged reasonably so as not to affect public spaces and people's lives, she noted.

"It is reasonable to regularly change check-in models to attract tourists. However, there should be fixed structures with unique features to impress tourists. In addition, there should be clear signs and instructions placed in suitable locations and information about check-in points so that tourists can easily find and share them on social networks" Ms. Vi suggested.

From July - October 2024, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches launched the "Beach Flower Road" check-in space to create new tourism product to serve people and tourists in the summer of 2024. After that time, the unit requisitioned some miniatures for decoration. In 2025, the management board will implement the model from March 29 to the end of September to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang (March 29, 1975 - March 29, 2025).

Previously, the management board held a contest to design check-in models at local beaches to select ideas for unique check-in models along the coastal route in 2025 and the following years. The contest created an annual creative playground for the community, thereby enhancing interaction and people's contribution to building the image and brand of beautiful, vibrant, and artistic Da Nang beaches.

At the same time, the contest helped promote the friendly, vibrant, and attractive tourism brand of Da Nang beaches to tourists at both home and abroad, as well as provided a highly educational and artistic entertainment space.

Mr. Phan Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, said that in the coming time, his unit will coordinate with design consultants to propose suitable decoration models, organise competitions and select designs that are artistic, sustainable, and suitable for the marine climate.

Notably, the management board will propose that the city's tourism industry create more check-in spaces with Da Nang's own mark.

The city has assigned the Da Nang Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects to implement investment preparation steps for a project on upgrading infrastructure along the two coastal routes of Vo Nguyen Giap and Nguyen Tat Thanh. This project includes landscape and check-in clusters, and installation art that are symbolic of the city.

"The management board in particular and the tourism industry in general are always making every effort to elevate the position of the coastal city on the domestic and international tourism map. This will greatly contribute to making Da Nang a green, clean, friendly and modern coastal city while still retaining its own identity" Mr. Hai emphasised.
