Experts from Michelin Guide evaluate restaurants and eateries in this coastal city as a harmonious blend of street stall style and modern restaurants, meeting all culinary needs from popular to high-end.
In the list of 10 most exciting foodie destinations in 2025 recently announced by Michelin Guide, Da Nang is a new name ranked with famous cities in the world such as Austin and Miami (the US), Mexico City (Mexico), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Bangkok (Thailand), Fujian (China), Osaka (Japan), Bath (UK) and Vienna (Austria).

So what makes Da Nang, cuisine so highly appreciated?

A destination with strong appeal

Experts from Michelin Guide identify Da Nang as a coastal city with fresh seafood and dishes rich in local identity. In every trip, cuisine is always an important factor, helping people connect with cultures and destinations around the world. Accordingly, the development of restaurants is the ‘culinary path’ that brings tourists closer to the locals, immersing them in the history and traditions of the destination.

Da Nang, with its coastal location, has a diverse and unique cuisine of many types of seafood such as shrimp, fish, crab, squid, clams and snails. Michelin Guide evaluates the restaurants and eateries in this coastal city as harmonious between the style of sidewalk stalls and modern restaurants, meeting all culinary needs from popular to high-end.

In particular, Da Nang is located on the coast in central Vietnam between the ancient town of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its well-preserved architecture and picturesque lantern-lit streets, and the imperial city of Hue, a lively coastal city beloved by the locals for its beaches, cultural landmarks, and growing culinary reputation.

Da Nang being honoured by Michelin Guide will contribute to continuing to promote the unique dishes of this destination in particular, Vietnamese cuisine in general, to those who are passionate about food as well as exploring world culture.

Previously, Da Nang cuisine has received more attention from the media and domestic and international tourists since the Michelin Guide made debut in the central coastal city in June 2024.

Officially becoming the third culinary destination of Michelin Guide in Viet Nam not only affirms the appeal of Da Nang's famous dishes, but is also an opportunity for the central capital to once again affirm its position as a dynamic and attractive international destination.

Deputy Director of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, affirmed that the brilliance of a destination like Da Nang associated with Michelin makes the city's appeal increasingly stronger. Michelin's choice of Da Nang is a very correct, accurate and quality direction, because this is an emerging destination, a city worth visiting, worth living.

From culinary heritage to the “kitchen” of the world

Da Nang has been and will be known to the world not only as a modern city with a civilized lifestyle, a capital of Vietnamese tourism with iconic attractions such as the Golden Bridge, which was honoured to be voted by The Daily Mail as one of the 10 new wonders of the world In 2021, My Khe Beach, which ranked 6th on the list of Travelers' Choice Awards Best of the Best Beaches for 2024 in Asia, or large-scale festival events such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival.

With the presence of prestigious Michelin stars, Da Nang has become the “kitchen” of even the most demanding diners around the world.

Not only is it in the top 10 culinary destinations to visit in 2025 of Michelin Guide, Da Nang currently has 36 restaurants honoured by Michelin Guide, including 16 Bib Gourmands (Michelin’s best-value picks) and one One-Star restaurant and 19 restaurants/eateries on the Michelin Selected list.

Notably, the Nén Danang restaurant became the first and only restaurant in Viet Nam to receive the Michelin Green Star that was born to highlight establishments at the forefront of the industry for their sustainable practices and dining experiences that combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments.

Must-visit spots include the minimalist and theatrical Nén Danang and Madame Lân, where an array of local cuisine styles is served on tables out in a courtyard illuminated by colorful lanterns hanging in the trees above.

Among the must-try dishes in Da Nang, the guide highlighted mi Quang (Quang-style noodles) and bun cha ca (fish cake noodle soup).

Dishes like ‘mi Quang’, a rich turmeric noodle broth, and ‘bun cha ca’, a flavourful fish cake soup, reflect the influence of both northern and southern Vietnamese cuisines.

Meanwhile, fish cake noodle soup, another local favorite, features a tomato- and pumpkin-based broth paired with fresh fish cakes. Diners can opt for traditional fish cakes or add slices of mackerel or tuna for variety. ‘Bun cha ca’ is widely available throughout Da Nang, with well-known eateries concentrated along streets such as Nguyen Chi Thanh and Le Hong Phong.

Previously, the US-based travel website Travel Off Path also highlighted Da Nang and Hoi An among the top five most budget-friendly destinations in Asia for digital nomads in 2025.
