On Thursday, Vietnamese tech giant  FPT Corporation held the opening ceremony of the High Technology and Semiconductor Chip R&D Centre at the Da Nang Software Park No. 2.

In attendance at the event were Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee cum Head of the city’s National Assembly Deputies’ Delegation Nguyen Van Quang; Permanent Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Council Tran Phuoc Son; and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh congratulated the FPT Corporation on its 37-year history of establishment and development, including more than 20 years of accompanying Da Nang.

In 2024, the FPT Urban Area (FPT City) contributed VND150 billion to the city’s budget revenue, and other FPT units also contributed about VND176.6 billion (including personal income tax).

FPT has attracted and trained 10,000 high-quality employees, and contributed 69% of Da Nang’s total software export turnover.

In particular, FPT's pioneering presence with the R&D Centre for High Technology and Semiconductor Chips is an important core in the city’s technology ecosystem.

Implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, Da Nang identifies the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as the top important breakthrough, the main driving force in the city’s socio-economic development.

Along with that, the National Assembly’s promulgation of Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 dated June 26, 2024 on the organisation of urban government and piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang is an important milestone, creating momentum for the city’s strong transformation in the new era.

Da Nang aims a target that the digital economy will contribute 35% - 40% of the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by 2030. In particular, artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors are one of the strategic spearheads, the key for Da Nang to make more development strides in the future.

By 2030, the city will have at least 5,000 talented engineers in the field of microchips and semiconductors, including 2,000 design engineers and 3,000 packaging and testing engineers and technicians.
Da Nang expects FPT's FPT High-Tech and Semiconductor R&D Centre to become a technology "incubator" where Vietnamese and international experts join hands to develop products bearing the “Make in Viet Nam - Make in Da Nang” imprint.

The city is committed to creating the most favourable conditions and environment for businesses, continuing to propose to the Vietnamese Government to supplement mechanisms and policies to encourage investment, especially conditions for the formation of the Regional Financial Centre; the Centre for Innovative Startups; the Centre for Research and Development.

At the same time, importance will be promoting research mechanisms, policies and support for investment in the fields of high technology, information technology (IT) industry, digital transformation, supporting industries, along with forming high-class commercial centers and entertainment areas, with mechanisms to attract more private investment sources.

It is known that the FPT High-Tech and Semiconductor R&D Centre has a total area of nearly 3,000m² on the 8^th floor, ICT1 building, the Da Nang Software Park No. 2, Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District.

The establishment of this new R&D Centre is the first step to concretize the comprehensive cooperation commitment made by the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology and the FPT Corporation announced in January 2025. Accordingly, under the agreement, the two sides are cooperating in investing in research, developing technology and resources in the semiconductor and AI industry.

The centre’s goal is to attract 500 technology experts by 2025 and expand this number in the future. 100% of FPT products will also be researched and developed here, with an average of 10 new products expected to be launched each year.

In Da Nang, FPT has researched, developed and launched 10 new products, aiming to solve problems in many fields such as the VertZero greenhouse gas inventory automation solution, the LendVero end-to-end loan management system, the ArchiveNex electronic storage system...
