Da Nang eyes diversifying tourism products to lure more visitors

To maximise resource utilisation, Da Nang’s tourism industry is diversifying its products and creating in-depth offerings tailored to the specific needs of each tourist market.

Many outstanding products

According to the assessment of tourism and travel service providers, the south central coast region has strengths in terms of geographical location and infrastructure, and great potential for sea and island tourism, ecotourism and cultural tourism. Therefore, localities in the region that have invested in a systematic and outstanding tourism product system will be able to retain tourists.

As for Da Nang alone, in 2025, the city continues to reaffirm its position as an attractive destination in the global tourism map through many prestigious international tourism titles and awards along with the favourite choices of tourists. It continues to attract and organise many major festival events.

In March 2025, more than 30 main and accompanying activities were held across the city in celebration of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the municipal Party Organisation (March 28, 1930 - March 28, 2025) and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the city (March 29, 1975 - March 29, 2025). Included were fireworks displays, parades of flower-decorated vehicles and boats, an exhibition titled "Da Nang - 50 years of Development and Integration", the inauguration of Da Nang Museum at a new location, and the Da Nang Food Tour Festival.

In the coming months, the city will host a wide range of national and international events such as the Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) 2025, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2025, the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, the Enjoy Da Nang Festival, the IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam, the Viet Nam - ASEAN Festival, and the Viet Nam - UK Football Festival 2025 - "Legendary Red".

According to Mr. Peter Walton, President of the World Golf Tourism Association, the AGTC 2025 is expected to attract more than 450 delegates, far exceeding the number of 340 delegates at AGTC 2024 in Abu Dhabi. This affirms the attraction of the city - the destination of events.

"When AGTC was first brought to Da Nang in 2017, there were only 4 golf courses in Da Nang and Central Viet Nam. We expected that the success of the event would promote the sustainable development of golf tourism here. Eight years later, we returned and witnessed strong development with 8 international-class golf courses", Mr. Peter Walton said.

Focusing on different markets

Many opinions say that neighboring localities are increasingly having strong tourism promotion strategies. Therefore, the city's tourism industry must develop key and supporting products that are competitive enough.

Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy, Director of the Visit Indochina Co., Ltd., cited that with entertainment products, the city is making positive changes.

“I work in the tourism sector so I have the opportunity to watch many live shows at both home and abroad. I am really impressed by the Tien Sa Show which recently opened in Da Nang. The 60-minute show introduces the nature, people, and culture of Da Nang, attracting viewers from the opening to the end. If I were to rate live shows across the country, I would personally rank them as follows: Hoi An Memories Show (Quang Nam Province’s Hoi An City), A O Show (Hoi An & Ho Chi Minh City), Tinh Hoa Bac Bo (Ha Noi), Tien Sa Show (Da Nang), Roi Mo (Nha Trang), Tinh Hoa Viet Nam (Phu Quoc), and Da Nang Charming (Da Nang)” Mr. Thuy remarked.

He, however, stressed the necessity for the city to conduct a more thorough survey of the artistic perception of each guest of different nationalities to make adjustments to suit the situation of many different sources of international guests in Da Nang.

Mrs. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, the Director of the municipal Department of Tourism, mentioned that the local tourism industry is increasingly tapping into potential tourist markets to diversify its sources of visitors. The focus is on implementing various promotional activities, alongside strong communication and advertising efforts. Additionally, efforts are made to develop tourism products and destinations that cater to the specific preferences of each tourist market.

According to information from the Association of Tour Operators in Russia (ATOR), the number of Russian tourists visiting Viet Nam has increased significantly, not only in the fall and winter but also during May and the summer holidays. Da Nang is leading the way in attracting Russian, Eastern European, and Middle Eastern tourists, thanks to its ability to cater to the demand for coastal resorts with a range of high-end resorts and hotels located at My Khe Beach, Non Nuoc Beach, and Son Tra Peninsula. Additionally, there are popular tourist destinations such as Marble Mountains, Ba Na Hills, and Hoi An Ancient Town, as well as upscale golf courses including Legend Danang Golf Resort, Ba Na Hills Golf Club, and Montgomerie Links Golf Club.

Da Nang has isolated coastal resorts that suit the high-end resort trend of Middle Eastern tourists, and large shopping centres such as Vincom Plaza and Lotte Mart to serve the shopping needs of branded products, gemstones, and jewelry, Ms. Hanh emphasised.
