City's champion swimmer to carry Vietnamese flag at SEA Games opening ceremony
Swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc from Da Nang has been chosen as the flag-bearer for the Vietnamese team at the opening ceremony of the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar on 11 December. This is a great honour for Phuoc, who won 2 gold medals at the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia in 2011. In addition to female swimmer Anh Vien from Can Tho, Phuoc is a great hope for Viet Nam swimming at this year’s event.
At 7pm on Wednesday, the first group of the Vietnamese delegation flew to Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw on a special flight operated by Vietnam Airlines. The 182-member group comprised 15 youth union cardres, 10 doctors, 15 boxers, 19 canoeists, 19 male and 20 female futsal players, 19 wushu and 22 Pencak Silat competitors, 12 cyclists, 4 swimmers, and 27 football players from the U23 national football team.
The remaining Vietnamese competitors are scheduled to fly to Myanmar on 9 and 14 December.
