The 2014 event will feature 14 films of various genres, including romance, drama, animation, action, thriller, and comedy.

Most of the films screened are recent and have gained growing acclaim, notably by being selected in international film festivals and having won awards all over the world.

They are: “High Performance” from Austria; “Henri” from Belgium; “Journey to Jerusalem” from Bulgaria; “Don’t Fool Around The Devils” from the Czech Republic; “Stars Above” from Finland; “Les Contes De La Nuit” (“Tales of the Night”) from France; “Oh Boy!” from Germany; “Ondine” from Ireland; "Doudege Wénkel" (“Blind Spot”) from Luxembourg; “The 5th Season of the Year” from Poland; “The Millennial Bee” from Slovakia; “Blancanieves” (“Snow White”) from Spain; “Searching for Sugar Man” from Sweden; and “How I Live Now” from the UK.

All the films will be screened with Vietnamese subtitles.

The festival, to be held by the Delegation of the European Union to Viet Nam and 14 Embassies of European Union Member States, aims to portray the diversity of European cinema to the Vietnamese public, thus contributing to an enhanced mutual understanding between the peoples of Viet Nam and the European Union.

Organized for the first time in 2000, the European Film Festival has become a credible avenue to bring new and captivating aspects of European culture to Vietnamese people by showcasing films that would otherwise not be shown in Vietnamese commercial cinemas.

This cinematic event is part of a broader series of "Europe Days 2014" events clustered around Europe Day (May 9).

The European Film Festival 2014 will take place at Ha Noi’s National Cinema Center, 87 Lang Ha Street in Ba Dinh District on May 16; at Da Nang’s CGV Cinemas, 4th Floor, Vinh Trung Plaza, 255-257 Hung Vuong Street on May 17; and HCMC’s Star Cineplex, Bitexco Financial Tower, 2 Hai Trieu Street in District 1 on May 19.

Free tickets can be collected from May 12 for screenings in Ha Noi and Da Nang, and from May 14 for screenings in HCMC.
