Preparations for Buddha's birthday completed
The Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Buddhist Sangha, the Most Venerable Thich Chuc Tin, has reported that all the preparatory work for the Buddha's birthday official ceremony, which will be held at the Linh Ung Pagoda on 13 May, has been completed. He remarked that this year’s activities have been kept simple, but they will still feature solemn Buddhist traditional rituals.
Today, on the 14th day of the 4th lunar month (12 May), various events are being held at the Linh Ung Pagoda which is in Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward. They include the ritual of bathing the Buddha, a memorial service for the martyrdom of Vietnamese Buddhist monks, a procession for the light of wisdom, a preaching session on the meaning of Vesak, and a musical performance to celebrate the Buddha’s birthday.
The official ceremony tomorrow, also at the Linh Ung Pagoda, will feature the solemn Buddhist traditional rituals at 6am. A little later, a preaching session on the meaning of Vesak and a musical performance to celebrate the Buddha's birthday will be held at the Phap Lam Pagoda, 500 Ong Ich Khiem Street. Details and times are on our What’s On page.
Since Saturday, the city’s security forces have been making every effort to ensure social order and security at the Linh Ung Pagoda during the festival. At present, there are 2 free-of-charge vehicle parking areas at the pagoda, and no unofficial parking lots have been found operating nearby.
