Start of 3rd Da Nang Newspaper Football Tournament for pupils

The 3rd Da Nang Newspaper Football Tournament for primary and junior high school pupils opened at the city’s Tien Son Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon. 

The event is being co-organised by the Da Nang Newspaper, the city’s departments of Education and Training, and Culture, Sports and Tourism, the local Youth Union, and relevant agencies.  In attendance  at the opening were the Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, leaders of local relevant agencies and district authorities, representatives of sponsors, and a large number of fans.

Addressing the event, the Da Nang Newspaper Editor-in-Chief and Head of the Organising Board, Mr Mai Duc Loc, said that the tournament creates a useful playground for local primary and junior high school pupils.  On behalf of the Organising Board, Mr Loc thanked the sponsors for their contributions to the organisation of the event, and presented flowers to them.  He also gave flowers and souvenir flags to the participating football teams.

The opening day of the tournament featured the first exciting matches of the qualifiers.  Thanh Khe District's Be Van Dan Primary School had a convincing 2-0 win over Hai Chau District's Tran Van On Primary School (Group A), and Lien Chieu District’s Ngo Si Lien Primary School claimed a 3-3 draw against Hai Chau District’s Le Lai Primary School (Group A).

In Group B, also for primary schools, Thanh Khe District’s Nguyen Binh Khiem had a 5-3 win over Hoa Vang District's Hoa Lien 2 school, whilst Son Tra District’s Quang Trung Primary School notched up a 5-1 win over Cam Le District’s Ngo Quyen school.

Today, 19 May, there are matches for junior high schools between Le Loi and Trung Vuong (Group C), Le Thi Hong Gam and Nguyen Van Cu (Group C), Pham Van Dong and Kim Dong (Group D), and Nguyen Van Linh and Le Anh Xuan (Group D).
