Published: June 23, 2014

Under the 2014 Da Nang - Summer Rendezvous programme, which is taking place from 19 to 29 June, a wide range of exciting activities are being held at the Eastern Sea Park on Pham Van Dong Street.

The programme has drawn a lot of attention from local residents and visitors.  In particular, a Family Festive Day entitled “Loving Arms” was held yesterday with the participation of 250 local families, and there were kayak races involving 30 teams.

Over the weekend, the event featured a display of model aircrafts, the Art Football Festival, an X-game bike performance, coracle races, and a waiter/waitress competition.  There were street parades of motorcycles and flower-decorated cyclos, bai choi and musical performances, and fashion shows.

From 26 - 29 June a paragliding competition will be taking place.  Up to 40 participants from Da Nang, Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa Province will give aerial acrobatic performances whilst trailing Vietnamese flags to raise public awareness about love for the country’s sea and islands.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Tran Chi Cuong, said that the programme is to advertise the city’s tourism as well as to convey the message to international friends that Da Nang is an attractive, safe and friendly destination.  This will help to attract more visitors to the city for relaxation and investment.

Apart from various cultural and sporting activities, there are now many new interesting tours for visitors.  In particular, there are organised visits to the 800-year-old banyan tree in the Son Tra Nature Reserve which has just been recognised as a national heritage tree.  Also, a new “mountain-climbing train” has been operating at Ba Na Hills Resort since 26 April.  It carries passengers from the second cable car station to the Linh Ung Pagoda, the Le Jardin flower garden, and a villa complex featuring classical French-style architecture.

The InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort has recently opened its luxury night-time entertainment complex called M Nightclub and Lounge.  It features a movie theatre, a performance stage, wine bars and other entertainment areas, with a total capacity of 400 guests.

The Sky36 Night Club will be officially operational from next Friday, 27 June.  Located on the top two floors of the Novotel, it is expected to be the city’s most luxurious entertainment venue.
