Viet Nam's largest observation wheel opens in the city
On 18 July, the Asia Park Company inaugurated the “Sun Wheel” which is the first part of the company’s Asia Park project on the southeastern side of Da Nang’s 2 September Peace Monument. It is the largest observation wheel in Viet Nam, and one of the 10 highest in the world.
Illuminated by 13,000 LED lights, the 115m-high wheel weighs 980 tonnes and has 64 cabins that can each accommodate 6 people. A full revolution takes 15 minutes.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, remarked that, with its special characteristics, Asia Park’s Sun Wheel will create a momentum for boosting the city’s tourism and recreation services. This will significantly contribute to accelerating local socio-economic progress in the future.
Developed by Sun Group, the 10 trillion VND Asia Park project, which covers 763,208m2 of land and 116,874m2 of water, is now underway. The first stage of the project, comprising the observation wheel and over 60 international standard rides, will be completed by the end of 2015 at a cost of about 4 trillion VND. In the second stage, the park will showcase replicas of famous architectural works and typical landscapes of 9 Asian countries.
