Severe shortage of human resources in cultural sector
Over recent years, Da Nang has focused on either upgrading some of its cultural works or building new ones, but it has not given much attention to developing the qualified staff involved in the cultural sector. As a result, the city is now facing a severe shortage of artistes and of staff involved in cultural management.
According to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city’s cultural sector now has 410 staff members, with 60.5% of the sector’s managers aged under 40. They are working at the 2 functional offices and 12 units which are under the management of the Department.

The Deputy Director of the Department, Mr Nguyen Huu Chien, said that the city’s cultural sector is now facing a shortage of staff with a bachelor's or higher degree. The main reason seems to be that the city’s authorities have yet to issue policies for attracting qualified human resources into the cultural sector.
To deal the problem, the local authorities will make long-term plans to develop more human resources in the cultural sector, with a focus on seeking talents from local fine arts schools as well as providing preferential policies and extensive training for them. In addition, more training courses will be provided for the sector’s staff members to improve their professional skills. Top priority will be given to issuing more preferential policies to local singers, actors, actresses, music players and others involved in the cultural sector.
