Domestic athletes dominant in the marathon races

The 2nd Da Nang International Marathon races took place in the city on Sunday morning, involving around 4,000 runners in total from 27 countries and territories around the world.  However, it was the domestic competitors who dominated in all the races. 

First place in the men’s marathon went to Tran Van Loi who finished the 42.2km race in a time of 2 hours 36 minutes and 17 seconds, whilst Hoang Nguyen Thanh and Nguyen Van Long finished in second and third places respectively.  In the women’s marathon, Hoang Thi Thanh took the first prize in a time of 3 hours 7 minutes and 22 seconds, with Lam Thi Thuy in second and Anette Haudrum Axelsen from Denmark in third place. 

The top 3 finishers in the men’s half marathon were Vietnamese athletes.  Do Quoc Luat finished first in 1 hour 14 minutes and 38 seconds, followed by Le Tuan and Bui The Anh.  Phung Thi Hang won the women’s half marathon in a time of 1 hour 31 minutes 4 seconds, with Hiromi from Japan the runner-up and Aneta from Finland in third.

Mr Dennis Zaborac from the USA, who has participated in 12 international marathon competitions around the world, was the first person to finish both the half marathon and 5km events.
