Holiday weekend events attract thousands
Despite the unfavourable weather conditions over the recent public holidays, events across Da Nang still attracted many local residents and visitors.
A contest between over 30 musical bands and dance groups, held on an area of vacant land off Tran Hung Dao Street from 28 to 30 August, deeply impressed the hundreds watching.
Singer Uyen Linh’s live show entitled “Seem to … Just a Dream” took place at the Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theatre on Sunday evening. It was the 4th live show in a series of monthly musical programmes entitled “Seem to …” which is organised by the Canh Cung Media Company. Uyen Linh and her invited guest, the second runner up in the 2011 Sao Mai (Morning Star) music contest, singer Vu Thang Loi, won the hearts of hundreds of local music lovers through their enchanting performances.

A musical performance, with “Da Nang and Homeland’s Sea and Islands” as its theme, was also held at the Trung Vuong Theatre on Sunday evening. The event featured fascinating performances by local art troupes from the Military Zone 5, the Arts-Culture Pro-Intermediate School of Da Nang, and the Children’s House.
Grateful for the better weather on Tuesday, thousands of visitors and local people crowded the Bach Dang Street promenade and the Han River Bridge to watch street music and water-skiing performances. Organised by the city’s Events and Festivals Organising Centre, the water-skiing shows thrilled the spectators, whilst the street music programme included breakdancing, hip-hop, pop, rock, flamenco and traditional instrument performances.
