Da Nang team climb to 7th place at National Sports Festival
As of 14 December, in all the sports at the 7th National Sports Festival, the Da Nang team ranked 7th out of 65 teams in the medal table with 18 gold, 24 silver and 27 bronze medals so far.
In particular, on 10 December, the city’s taekwondoka fighters Tran Ngoc Tuan and Doan Thi Huong Giang won gold medals in the men’s 58kg and the women’s 49kg categories respectively.
The city’s weightlifter Tran Le Quoc Toan took 3 silver medals in the men's 56kg category. Toan lifted 120kg in the snatch and 155kg in the clean and jerk. His total lift was 275kg. Meanwhile, local weightlifter Nguyen Thi Kim Van set 3 new national records in the women’s above 75kg category by lifting 251kg overall with 110kg in the snatch and 141kg in the clean and jerk. These broke her previous records of 107kg in the snatch, 137kg in the clean and jerk, and 244kg overall.

Talented swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc clinched gold medals in the men’s 100m and 400m freestyle events respectively in times of 51.93secs and 4 mins 00.22secs. In the men’s 50m butterfly event, Phuoc convincingly beat his rival Phan Lam Yen from Ho Chi Minh City to win the gold medal in 25secs. In the men’s 4 x 400m relay, Phuoc and his teammates Nguyen Van Ty, Chau Ba Anh Tu and Pham Truong Giang took the gold medal in a time of 3 mins 34.04secs.
The city’s female walker Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc won the gold medal in the 20 km race in a time of 1 hour 35 minutes and 7 seconds. In the men’s 20km race, Nguyen Thanh Ngung clinched the gold medal in 1 hour 26 minutes and 53 seconds, and Vo Xuan Vinh finished in 2nd place.
