National team receives Fair Play Award at AFF Cup 2014
The Viet Nam national football team has received the Fair Play Award at the 2014 Southeast Asian Football Championship - AFF Suzuki Cup, announced the organising board on December 20.
According to football experts, in this year’s tournament, the team showed their dedication to football with a number of eye-catching attacking phases.
At the individual title, Malaysian midfielder Safiq Rahim won the Scorer Award with six goals in seven matches while Thai striker Chanathip Songkrasin triumphed the Best Player award.
VN students finish fourth at AUG
Viet Nam finished fourth at the 17th ASEAN University Games (AUG), which wrapped up yesterday in Indonesia.
In the final two days of competition, the students earned four gold and seven silver medals. Overall, Viet Nam students were awarded 27 gold medals, 15 silver medals and two bronze medals, coming in fourth.
Pencak silat martial artists were the latest winners, taking home titles in men's, women's and team seni (performance) categories, along with one in tanding (combat) class.
Hosts Indonesia dominated the Games, winning 64 titles. Thailand and Malaysia finished second and third, respectively.
The next AUG will be held in Singapore.
San, Kieu win Da Nang marathon
Pham Tien San and Truong Thi Thuy Kieu, of National Sport Training Centre No 3, won the men's 7km and women's 5km professional divisions of the Da Nang Marathon yesterday.
Also, Nguyen Van Tin from Thanh Khe District and Nguyen Thi Bich Hang of Hoa Vang District clinched the men's 7km and women's 4km in the amateur division.
Further, the Da Nang Trade College won the overall title in the race among universities and colleges.
Meanwhile Ngu Hanh Son team topped the awards for the junior secondary school division, with Ngo Quyen High-school winning the high-school category.
The city's Public Security team and the Army's Battalion 409 won the police and soldier team's 3km race, respectively.
Nearly 790 athletes competed in the annual marathon at the East Sea Park for total cash prizes of VND75 million (US$3,600).
