His teammates, Kieu Thanh Tu and Ha Minh Thanh, obtained silver and bronze medals respectively.
Three other golds were won in the team competition under the men's 25m centre-fire category by trio Hoang Xuan Vinh, Thanh and Bui Quang Nam; men's 50m pistol team event by Vinh, Tran Quoc Cuong and Nguyen Hoang Phuong; and men's 50m (3x40 shots) rifle pool by Nguyen Duy Hoang, Phung Le Huyen and Nguyen Van Quan.
The country's top national athlete, Vinh, failed to win a single title in this 10-day tournament. He is the World Cup defending champion and holds the world record for the 10m air pistol event. The soldier scored only 176 points and took home a bronze medal.
Vietnam also sent 63 other marksmen to Singapore. They won six silver and five bronze medals.
The 38th championship was organised by the Choa Chu Kang Shooting Range. Some 450 athletes from 19 countries and territories participated in the event. A number of powerhouses in the continent were invited as well.
