An exhibition entitled “US Troops Landed at Da Nang 50 Years Ago” was opened today, 6 March, at the Museum of Da Nang, and it will run until 6 April.

Jointly organised by the museum and the municipal Historical Science Association, the exhibition is part of a series of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the landing of US ground troops in Da Nang (8 March 1965) and the upcoming 40th anniversary of the liberation of the city (29 March 1975).

On display are a total of over 150 photos and artifacts about the landing and the city’s urban movement during the resistance war against these invaders.

The photo display is divided into 3 parts.  The first part is entitled “Starting from Red Beach Two…” and shows photos of the US marines disembarking from their landing craft and wading onto the city’s Xuan Thieu Beach, formerly code named Red Beach Two.  These soldiers were from a battalion landing team of the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade.  In addition, there are other photos and artifacts showing the US’s work to build Da Nang into its second military base in the southern region, and also their withdrawal from the city.

The second part, “Da Nang Struggles against the US with a Resilient Spirit”, highlights the city’s resistance war against the invaders, especially the movements for democracy in the inner-city which ran until its liberation on 29 March 1975.

The third part is called “Then and Now” and it shows clearly the city’s firm stance on putting aside the past and looking forward to the future.

Also today, the city’s Historical Science Association and the Lien Chieu District Party Committee jointly held a seminar on this historical event.
