Appraisal of landscape improvements along banks of Han River
Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Tran Tho and municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho recently co-chaired a meeting to appraise a project for improving the landscapes of both banks of the Han River. The project’s architectural designs have been created by South Korea’s JiNa Architects Co Ltd.
Under the project, the focus will be on developing different landscaped areas on both banks of the river between the Tran Thi Ly and Thuan Phuoc bridges.

Ecological areas featuring a vast green space will be created on the section between the Tran Thi Ly and Rong (Dragon) bridges. There will be a dragon-shaped fountain and a flower garden at the western end of the Tran Thi Ly and Nguyen Van Troi bridges, and a marina and a square will be built at the eastern end of these bridges. Buildings will be not allowed to be constructed above 4-storeys at the eastern and western ends of the bridges because they would hide the panoramic views of the river.
Dynamic areas on the section between the Rong and Han River bridges will feature an outdoor performance stage, an artificial pool, high-class commercial buildings, entertainment, eating and drinking areas, night markets and other urban utilities.
A central area will be created on the section between the Han River Bridge and the former Han River Port site. There will be dragon scales-shaped grassy areas on the eastern bank of the river, whilst a water park, a trip boat pier, areas for live street performances and entertainment services for local young people will be developed on the western bank of the river. In particular, the former port site where the fireworks are let off during the Da Nang International Fireworks Competitions will remain unchanged.
Other areas on the section between the former Han River Port site and the Thuan Phuoc Bridge will feature an environmentally-friendly water park, and an artificial island will be created in the park in order to create more green space.
The architectural designs together focus on creating more green spaces alongside the river for people wanting to enjoy relaxing moments. JiNa Architects Co Ltd also propose to increase the area planted with trees to 10% of the project’s total area from the current 5%.
At the event, Secretary Tho remarked that, like the Son Tra Peninsula and the Ba Na Hills Resort, the Han River is considered to be an important landmark in the city. Therefore, the city’s leaders want to develop radical and long-term plans for making the landscapes along the banks of the river cultural and architectural heritages for future generations. He asked the municipal Department of Construction and the project’s architectural designers to collect opinions from related experts and local residents in order to complete a master plan for improving the landscapes of the river banks as soon as possible. The plan will then be submitted to the city leaders for consideration. Once approved, top priority will be given to starting the work on the project’s central area.
