Da Nang People’s Committee (PC) Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung recently chaired a meeting to discuss the installation of a digital clock at the roundabout of Ngo Quyen and Pham Van Dong streets to count down to the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG 5).  This is the first work to be deployed in preparation for ABG 5, which will take place in the city from 24 September to 3 October 2016.

The installation of the clock will be completed on 20 September this year, and it will be officially put into use 4 days later to mark one year before the event begins.

The roundabout, at the eastern end of the Han River Bridge, has been chosen for the clock's location by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism due to its large size.  In addition, the roundabout is one of the city’s most important traffic junctions and ideally suited to effectively publicising ABG 5.

At the meeting, representatives from the Chien Thang Company in Ha Noi presented their 3 options and costings.  To install the clock will cost 1.7 billion VND, 2.2 billion VND or 3 billion VND depending on the size of the clock’s LED screen.

The Director of the Holiday Beach Danang Hotel & Resort, Mr Tran Anh Trien, promised that his company would totally fund the design and installation of the clock.  This company also suggested that the total length of the digits, which indicate the days, hours, minutes and seconds, should be about 24.7m, with each of the digits being 2.2 m high.  The official mascot of ABG 5 will be placed above the digits and the symbol of the city’s Marble Mountains will be arranged behind it.

Vice Chairman Dung totally agreed with the proposals made by Mr Trien, but he stressed the need to made suitable adjustments to the design of the clock.

Today, 17 August, the Holiday Beach Danang Hotel & Resort submitted their adjusted design to the municipal PC for approval.
