Improving cultural lifestyle for local residents
According to Da Nang’s cultural experts, in addition to developing cultural works in the city, a focus should also be on promoting a cultural lifestyle for local residents to create a firm foundation for Da Nang to become a more cultural and civilised city.
The municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism last month issued a code of conduct applicable to the local tourism sector. The new code is intended to make the city a more attractive, safe and friendly destination for travellers from both home and abroad.

The code of conduct will be applied to 3 main groups of people: individuals and organisations working within the city’s tourism sector, local residents, and domestic and foreign visitors to the city. In particular, the code briefs local people on do’s and dont’s related to their customs, attitudes and awareness of environmental protection.
However, the cultural experts have also suggested that another code of conduct for local residents applicable to their local culture should be issued soon and publicised widely amongst the general public.
The city’s Department of Publicity and Training has coordinated with other local relevant agencies to release publicity handbooks on the regulations about building a cultural and civilised urban lifestyle in the city. For example, local pupils are required to maintain polite and courteous behaviour in schools. They must always be ready to say “hello”, “sorry”, “please”, “thank you”, and other polite phrases in Vietnamese.
Given the great efforts made by the local authorities and the high consensus amongst local residents, it is hoped that there will be many positive changes in public awareness of efforts to improve cultural lifestyles.
