V-League no longer attractive to home fans

Viet Nam's top-tier V-League 2015 will resume on Sunday 13 September after a 12-day hiatus as players were called to serve Viet Nam's national U23 team.  They defeated Taipei 2-1 in the qualifiers of the World Cup 2018 at the Taipei Municipal Stadium in Taiwan on 8 September.

However, it seems that the V-League is losing its attractiveness to football fans nationwide.  According to the latest statistics released by the Viet Nam Football Professional Joint Stock Company (VPF), the league’s matches during the second half of the season have only attracted an average of around 7,500 spectators, 500 fewer than the matches in the first half of the season.

The main reason for this decrease at stadiums across the country is thought to be the disappointing performances and poor results of some of the teams.  Also, the season has had a number of interruptions, including a break of 2 months from mid-February until mid-April, which have disrupted the flow of the teams.

In particular, SHB Da Nang have repeatedly disappointed their fans with their particularly poor record this season, although they have won 5 of their last 8 matches.  Meanwhile, football fans in Vinh City are planning to boycott Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) after a run of unusual consecutive defeats during recent matches. SLNA’s home fixture with Dong Thap on 28 August, which they won, only attracted about 2,000 spectators.

Unfortunately, the overall cause of the problem is believed to be the ineffective management and organisation of the VPF and the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF), and football fans nationwide have lost trust in them.

With just 2 games left for all the V-League teams to play before the season ends, Binh Duong look set to become the 2015 champions.  SHB DN currently lie in 8th place but could improve on that with good results away to SLNA on Sunday (5pm) and then home to Thanh Hoa, currently in 2nd place, on Sunday 20 September (5pm).
