The Department’s Deputy Director Nguyen Phuc Linh remarked that, over recent years, the city has seen many positive results in local cultural and sports activities.

In particular, between January and October, numerous large-scale sports, cultural and arts programmes have been organised across the city.  The 'Year for Culture and Urban Civilisation' programme is being implemented effectively, and various cultural exchange activities, and the recent 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5), were successfully held in the city.

Mr Linh said that these positive results were mainly attributed to the significant increase in spending from the city’s budget on local cultural activities.  These achievements have helped to meet the city’s development strategies in the new phase of local progress.

Addressing the event, Deputy Secretary Tri highly applauded all the employees of the local culture and sports sector for their great efforts in fulfilling their assigned tasks.  However, he also pointed out several shortcomings in this sector.  He mentioned that some cultural and historical relic sites were deteriorating, some sports practice and competition venues needed improvements, and the operation of local karaoke and bars present a high risk of insecurity.

Mr Tri took the opportunity to ask local relevant agencies to ensure the quality and on-schedule progress of projects for renovating the landscapes of parks on Xuan Thuy, Le Thanh Nghi, Cach Mang Thang Tam and Dang Xuan Bang streets.

One focus will be on working closely with the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Viet Nam Circus Federation to build a national-level centre for circus and synthetic arts in the city soon.

Importance will be attached to enhancing the operational quality of the Culture and Arts Junior College, and developing detailed plans for activities to mark 20 years since Da Nang’s recognition as a centrally-governed city on 1 January 1997.

Great efforts will be made to effectively mount a wide range of cultural activities within the framework of the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November 2017 in order to advertise the city’s image to international friends.   Many measures will be taken to ensure the success of the Congresses of Sports and Physical Training Departments at all levels, and to encourage domestic and foreign businesses to invest into beach sports and build more culture and sports areas.
