Mr Huynh Van Hung, Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, remarked that the existing Dien Hai Citadel site will be extended to cover an area of over 26,500m2. The 1st stage of a project to develop its tourism potential will involve the restoration and embellishment of the Citadel itself, at a total cost of around 98 billion VND. The 2nd stage will then feature seminars and talks to collect opinions from cultural experts about recreating garrisons, food and weapons storehouses, flag poles, and a watch tower as in the past.

According to the city's Land Fund Development Centre, the cost of compensating affected families will reach over 60 billion VND. The displaced families are expected to be offered relocation to Ly Tu Trong and Thanh Son streets.
Chairman Tho suggested that both phases of the project should be implemented at the same time to save time. The restoration of the Citadel should match with the overall plan of the Museum of Da Nang and the city’s Administrative Centre. The Dien Hai Citadel is expected to become a key tourist attraction in the city, and a venue for hosting large-scale events.
