Paragliders to compete at Son Tra Peninsula next month

As many as 50 fliers from both home and abroad will compete in the Da Nang paragliding race, and participate in related activities at the Son Tra peninsula from 20-30 June.

The Chairman of the Da Nang Paragliding Club, Mr Duong Hien Hoang told Viet Nam News that the race is open to all domestic and foreign competitors.

He said the race will officially open on 24 June as an event to promote the city’s annual Summer Destination programme. 

As scheduled, pilots will take off from a point on the Son Tra Mountain, at 571m above sea level, and land on the Tho Quang Beach after flying over a distance of 2.5km.

Participants will compete in the men’s and women’s individual and team events.

Hoang said the club’s paragliders will offer a Fun Flying event for tourists during the 10-day event at a cost of 1.3 million VND per person (57.5 USD).

Competitors can register to enter the race by sending an email to http://clbhangkhongdn@gmail.com before 15 June.

Paragliding is a recreational and competitive sport that firstly organised in the country 10 years ago.

The city also hosts an annual paragliding event to attract tourists during summer holidays.

In 2012, the city hosted the International Paramotor Race, which drew thousands of spectators.
