Organised by the Son Tra District authorities, the event will feature a total of 60 stands which will introduce new and interesting books released by the Ho Chi Minh City-based Fahasa Publishing House, the Green & Brown company, and the central regional branch of the Kim Dong Publishing House.
There will be a stand to receive books and cultural products donated by domestic individuals and organisations. These donated items will be then distributed to local school libraries, as well as to book reading rooms in the district’s wards, local public book café parks, and public bookcases operated by the Son Tra District Women’s Union.
In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to meet with renowned domestic poet Tran Dang Khoa, writer Pham Huu Dang Dat, and speaker Ngo Vo Giang Trung, and buy books signed by their authors.
There will also be competitions such as colouring for local primary school pupils, karaoke singing for children, talent seeking, drawings about the sea and islands, and book-related story telling.
During the 5-day event, the city’s General Science Library will provide free membership cards for visitors in order to promote a reading culture amongst local citizens.
In attempting to ensure the success of the book week, the district’s Education and Training Office will arrange for local school teachers and pupils to participate in the event’s opening and closing ceremonies, and in some of the competitions.
