In attendance at the opening ceremony were municipal Party Committee Secretary Truong Quang Nghia, Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, and other city leaders.
The inauguration of the venue aimed to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the city's liberation (29 March).
Addressing the event, Chairman Tho remarked, “The opening of the Hoang Sa Exhibition House offers a good opportunity to widely promote historical and legal evidence which re-affirm Viet Nam’s legitimate sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago over the historical periods”.
It is the fact that Viet Nam is the only country in the world to establish and exercise its national sovereignty over the archipelago in a peaceful manner over historical periods.
Seeing valuable exhibits on display at this special venue with their own eyes, both locals and visitors might gain a deeper insight into Viet Nam’s sacred sovereignty, and cling on to the constant hope the country would get back Hoang Sa one day.
The municipal government leader underlined a must-do to fully tap the functionality of the exhibition house. He also highlighted the important role of this new venue in the country’s academically diplomatic struggle for its legitimate claim over the Hoang Sa islands.
In an attempt to realise the above goal, Chairman Tho asked the venue’s staff members to uphold the sense of responsibility at work in developing the exhibition house into a modern museum in the years ahead.
Besides, importance should be attached to appealing for both domestic and foreign collectors for their donations of artifacts and documents about the Hoang Sa Archipelago for display at the house.

Covering an area of 1,248m2, the 4-storey house costs over 43 billion VND which came from the city’s budget. Work started on the site on 7 December 2015.
An architectural design, called ‘Viet Nam’s Sovereign Seal’, was chosen through a contest for the house. It was created by a group of 3 architects from Japan’s Wright Architecture Company - Fuminori Minakami from Japan, and Viet Nam's Tran Quoc Thanh and Nguyen Huy Quang.
On display at this house are a total of about 300 documents and artifacts grouped according to themes: the geographical position and natural conditions of the Hoang Sa Archipelago, Hoang Sa in old Vietnamese bibliographies issued before, and during the feudal Nguyen Dynasty over the 1802 - 1945 period, evidence about Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the archipelago during the 1945 - 1974 period, and the period from 1974 until now.
