Football tournament for primary and junior high school pupils begins

The 7th DA NANG Newspaper Football Tournament for primary and junior high school pupils opened at the gymnasium of the Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Pupils on Thursday morning.

In his opening speech at the event, Mr Le Quang A, the Da Nang Newspaper Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Head of the Organising Board, affirmed that despite many difficulties during their preparations for this year’s tournament, the newspaper has joined efforts with relevant local agencies to host the event as scheduled in a bid to maintain a useful and fascinating playground for local children during the summer break.

Mr A also took the opportunity to thank leaders of the Department of Education and Training, and the Executive Board of the School, for their active support for this year’s tournament. 

He also gave high praise to the event’s sponsors, namely the city-based NutiFood Company, the Fund of Vietnamese Football Talents, the city’s branches of the Viet Nam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, the Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper Printing Company, and the local Urban Environment Company. Also at the event, the organisers presented flowers and medals in recognition of their active support for this year’s event.

The opening day of the tournament featured the first exciting matches of the qualifiers for junior high schools. In Group C, Pham Van Dong suffered a 4-7 loss to Ly Thuong Kiet, and Tran Dai Nghia notched up a 7-3 win over Tran Quy Cap. 

In Group D, Chu Van An beat Nguyen Luong Bang 3-0.

Tomorrow, 12 May, there will be matches for primary schools - Le Ba Trinh v Tran Cao Van (Group A), Ngo Quyen v Hoa Son (Group A), and Mai Dang Chon v Hoang Van Thu (Group B).
