Over 1,600 athletes compete in IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam triathlon

Yesterday morning, the 2018 VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam triathlon took place at the Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa on Truong Sa, Ngu Hanh Son District.

This year’s event attracted a total of over 1,600 athletes from 56 countries and territories worldwide.

This year’s event, which had ‘Be Greater Together’ as its theme, attracted a total of over 1,600 athletes from 56 countries and territories worldwide. Especially, Vietnamese participants were 636, marking the highest-ever number of domestic competitors recorded in such competition.

In the end, Tim Reed and Tim Van Berkel, both from Australia, won the first and second prizes in the men’s professional category.

In the women’s professional category, the top 3 finishers were Radka Kahlefeldt from the Czech Republic, Dimity Lee Duke from Australia, and Caroline Steffen from Switzerland.

The 2018 VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam triathlon served as the qualifying round for the Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in Mactan, Cebu, Philippines on 5 August, and the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa on 1 and 2 September.

In particular, there were 50 slots for the most outstanding contestants from the Viet Nam triathlon to compete in the world championship race, and 30 for the Asia Pacific championship.

Most notably, Viet Nam has been chosen to host the 2019 Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship. Therefore, this year’s event helped both domestic and foreign athletes enhance their ability to participate in next year’s triathlon.
