Both visitors to Da Nang and locals like coming to their favorite hang-out spots around the city to enjoy amazing range of ‘must-try’ delicious nosh food offered at reasonable prices there. Notable amongst them are ‘goi mit tron’ (Vietnamese young jackfruit salad), ‘goi bo kho’ (beef jerky salad with green papaya), ‘banh trang kep’ (grilled, folded rice paper), and “kem xoi” (ice cream with steamed glutinous rice).

‘Goi mit tron’

At the heart of the salad is young, unripe jackfruit whose flesh is tender and mild in flavour. After being washed and well drained, sliced unripe jackfruit is stir fried for a few moments before it’s tossed with shrimp, pork, and several herbs.

The salad is then topped with fried shallots, crushed peanuts, chilies, and accompanied with dipping sauce. It’s best served with crispy rice crackers flecked with black sesame seeds.

This scrumptious dish features the savoriness of the boiled shrimp, the crunch of the roasted peanuts, the exotic taste of young jackfruit, the amazing aroma of freshly fried garlic and shallots, plus the sharp tang of the Vietnamese coriander.

An eatery nestled in the alley No 47 LyThai To Street, with a trading history of over 30 years, is the most popular venue for those who love this dish.

Very spicy ‘Oc hut’ (sucking snails)

Basically, a wide range of snails are steamed, fried, sautéed, coated in chili and salt, or grilled. In particular, there are a number of different toppings as well, ranging from sliced coconuts and mangoes to chili sauce, fried scallions and crushed peanuts.

The highly recommended places to serve snails are the Bac My An Market, the Cay Bang eatery near the Hoa Vang Junior High School, a dining area at the pierof Tran Thi Ly Bridge, and a similar one in front of the Tien Son Sports Arena.

‘Banh trang’, which is served with such ingredients as eggs, minced meat, chipped beef, is one of the most Vietnamese street foods commonly eaten by youngsters.

Amongst inviting kinds of ‘Banh trang’ is 'Banh trang tron' (mixed rice paper) which a hodge-podge salad-type creation.

A mouth-watering salad plate highlights shredded rice paper, all ingredients for the salad and mix well with chili sauce, lime juice, roasted peanuts and salad dressing. The shredded rice paper will soften when it absorbs the liquid in the dressing. It's better to make each serving portion separately.

It is quite easy to find eateries selling ‘Banh trang’ in Da Nang, including dining areas on Dong Giang Street, near the Phan Chau Trinh Senior High School, and in small alleys on Dien Bien Phu  Street.

Each portion of this dish ranges from 10,000 VND to 20,000 VND.

‘Kem bo’ (Vietnamese Avocado Mousse Ice Cream)

This street food snack is a rich and creamy dessert which is super quick and easy to make. It features ripe avocados, ice cream, coconut milk, condensed milk, and toasted coconut flakes.

A yummy glass of ‘Kem bo’ is offered at a very cheap price, hovering only from 10,000 VND to 15,000 VND.

In Da Nang, the Ms Van and Ms Cuc eateries, both located in the Bac My An Market in Ngu Hanh Son Dostrict are highly recommended to enjoy this attractive dish.
