In his remarks at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Trung Chinh affirmed, during the 1960-1975 period, families in the B1 Hong Phuoc revolutionary base became actively involved in providing shelters and food for thousands of revolutionary soldiers, as well as transporting dozens of tonnes of weapons, letters and documents from revolutionary mountainous bases to the inner-city to serve the revolution. This contributed to the national victory in the resistance war against the American.

On 5 April, the B1 Hong Phuoc revolutionary base was recognised as a municipal-level relic site for better preservation by the municipal authorities.

Also, Vice Chairman Chinh asked the Department of Culture and Sports and the district authorities to uphold their responsibilities for managing, protecting, preserving, and promoting the cultural and historical values of the site in accordance with the national regulations about cultural heritages.

He also underscored the significance of establishing a team responsible for managing this relic site in the coming time.

“Importance should be attached to raising public awareness about protecting and promoting the cultural and historical values of the site, as well as educating young people about the country's traditional patriotism” Mr Chinh noted.

Hong Phuoc (given the secret code name B1) was one of the city’s most important revolutionary bases during the 2 past resistance wars against the French colonialists and the US imperialists. In the resistance war against the US, Hong Phuoc Village was home to 64 families, and together they dug 46 secret shelters for use as hiding places for Vietnamese revolutionary soldiers. The villagers made great efforts to help Vietnamese revolutionary soldiers fight against the enemy, and win numerous resounding battles.
