VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam 2021 to offer tens of qualifying slots for U.S-hosted World Championship event
The 6th VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam, themed ‘Embracing Challenges’, is scheduled to make its comeback to Da Nang from May 6 - 9, with the official race date set on May 9, following last year’s interruption due to COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the event's organisers, thousands of athletes are expected to join the 6th annual TECHCOMBANK IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam in Da Nang, which has recently voted as one of the 52 Places to Go in 2019’ by the New York Times.
Set amongst majestic mountains and vibrant blue waters the racecourse is flat, fast, and has an incredible finish line right on the beach.
Under the event's rules, participants are required to compete in a 1.9km swim, a 2-loop 90km cycle race, and a 21.1 km run along the coastline.
Also, the race weekend will host the Sunrise SPRINT Viet Nam (a short series triathlon) and the IRONKIDS Viet Nam (aquathlon and triathlon formats) providing a race for all!
The 2021 VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam will offer 50 qualifying slots to the 2021 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship held in St. George, Utah, USA, September 17 – 18, 2021.
The upcoming event will also offer two qualifying slots to the World Championship event for the fastest Vietnamese male and fastest Vietnamese female athletes (1 male and 1 female).
In particular, IRONMAN Foundation through the Women For Tri programme has awarded this race an additional 25 qualifying slots for the 2021 Intermountain Healthcare IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Presented by Utah Sports Commission, to welcome and empower new female triathletes to be part of the sport’s continued growth.
According to the event’s organizers, this year’s contest is expected to see the highest number of Vietnamese athletes as foreign ones cannot come to Viet Nam to compete at this event due to the complicated global COVID-19 pandemic.
The beach track and sea swimming route in Da Nang has been as a favourite rendezvous for triathletes from many countries and territories around the world racing in the annual IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam since 2015.
