Da Nang’s Son Tra Nature Reserve is now home to 515 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. Meanwhile, a combined total of 442 the aforementioned species have been found at the Ba Na-Nui Chua Nature Reserve, and 205 species at the Nam Hai Van landscape protection area.

Most notably, 2 new species of animals, listed in Viet Nam’s red list of threatened species, have been recently found in the nature reserves of Son Tra and Ba Na - Nui Chua in the city.

Since 2015, forest protection staff in the city have made 93 records of administrative violations related to wildlife law enforcement and management.

The information was released by the Da Nang Forest Protection Department at a Thursday webinar on combating wildlife trafficking and the illegal consumption of wild animals and wildlife products.

The one-day event was hosted by the municipal Department of Natural Sources and the Environment, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Viet Nam, and the Vietnam Green Water Biodiversity Conservation Center (Green Viet).

Also at the event, the organisers launched an online photo exhibition entitled “Voices for Diversity” at https://baovedongvathoangda.org/. The event, running from September 30 - October 8, features close to 100 impressive wildlife photos and videos.
