More than 400 track and field athletes are expected to compete in the National Athletics Championships 2021 which is slated to be held at the Ha Noi-based My Dinh Stadium from December 9 - 13.

The host Ha Noi has the largest number of athletes participating with 50 people, followed by the Military with 37 and Ho Chi Minh City with 28.

The forthcoming sports event will feature a total of 50 events, 24 of which will be dedicated for male athletes, 24 for women and the remaining 2 being mixed relay events.

Gold and silver medalists at the upcoming sports event will be selected for the country’s national athletics team in preparation for SEA Games 31 which is set to take place in Ha Noi in May 2022, and for ASIAD 19 in Hangzhou, China, in September 2022.

To ensure the safety of athletes amid coronavirus fears and to comply with strict pandemic prevention and control measures, the National Athletics Championships 2021will be held without spectators.

As planned, after the National Athletics Championships, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Viet Nam Athletics Federation will organize the Pre-SEA Games from March 1 - 5, 2022 for the national teams of athletics from countries in the region.
