Over the past 3 years, On Thi Phuong Linh, a student from the Faculty of Tourism of the Da Nang-based Dong A University, has worked hard to pursue her dream of being a tour guide in a bid to introduce the beautiful images of her homeland and country to friends worldwide.

Linh was born and grew up in a rural area in Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province. With her great passion for travel, Linh decided to study the Tourism and Travel Service Management major at the Dong A University in Da Nang to pursue her dream.

“I have been passionate about travel since I was a child. Everywhere in my hometown is extremely beautiful. Therefore, I want to study tourism-related major in order to have the opportunity to travel a lot and advertise the beauty of culture and landscapes of my homeland to everyone" said Phuong Linh.

Constantly broadening knowledge and sharpening skills

In the new school environment, Phuong Linh met many friends and teachers who instilled in her a love of travel and made her more confident on her chosen path.

Phuong Linh said “I really like experiential and discovery activities. Therefore, I always look for tourism-related classes and participate in specialized competitions to improve my knowledge and skills.”

Most recently, Phuong Linh has excellently crowned champion of the ‘Students try to be a tour guide in 2021’ contest organized by the Da Nang Department of Tourism.

In the contest, Linh conquered the juries with her extensive knowledge and deep understanding of traditional history and culture, along with her amazing dance performance in the talent competition.

For Phuong Linh, the top prize at the contest is not only a source of her pride and joy but also a challenge for her to try harder and renew herself more.

Previously, in October 2021, the young native of Quang Nam Province took the top prize at ‘The Guiding Star season 4’ contest held by the Hoa Sen University in Ho Chi Minh City. Linh was the only contestant in the Central Viet Nam to have advanced to the final round.

Dream of being a teller of stories about homeland

During 3 years of university, Phuong Linh has spent her leisure time on travelling to many new places, majorly across Central Viet Nam.

“Each place I have travelled is a fascinating and rewarding story. I love Da Nang a lot because its amazing landscape and friendly and hospitable locals", said Phuong Linh.

Linh added the tourism industry has been hit hard by the second wave of COVID-19 infections over the past 2 years. Therefore, she has herself created many environments to experience, including learning knowledge and skills online, and participating in competitions in a bid to prepare for her upcoming graduation in the most flexible manner.

Moreover, Phuong Linh diligently improves her English and Chinese languages in order to have knowledge and a foundation for cultural exchange with young people around the world, thereby telling them about the beauty of my country in their own languages.
