New Museum of Da Nang to feature 4 display spaces

Construction units and contractors are speeding up the progress of upgrading the facilities at 42-44 Bach Dang and 31 Tran Phu into the Museum of Da Nang.

Once the renovation is completed, the new museum is expected to be a place to educate young generations about ardent patriotism and glorious national and municipal history, as well as a new emerging tourist attraction in the city.

Following the decision by the Da Nang government, nearly VND 505 billion from the city budget has been poured into the upgrading the existing 42 Bach Dang building into the Museum of Da Nang.

The relocation of the existing museum out of the Dien Hai Citadel site to 42 Bach Dang aims to give space for restoring and embellishing the citadel, and to ensure larger space for the museum as well.

The new museum will highlight both cultural and historical values, and especially, modern architectural features showing off the city’s images as a major economic hub in the central region.

It will have outdoor display spaces in a harmonious connection with the soon-to-be-established square, with the Dien Hai Citadel being at the central position, along with the General Science Library, and the landscape along the western bank of the Han River.

Additionally, there will be a parking area for museum staff, and pick-up or drop-off points for visitors.  

Also noticeably, the new Danang Museum will have four display spaces.

In particular, the first space will feature the museum views, a museum map and information booths, as well as introduce an overview of Da Nang from the past to the present.

The second space, themed ‘Natural and human history of Da Nang’, will showcase typical cultural features of the city, historical, cultural and scenic sites in the city with a collection of prehistoric archeological artifacts and human traces in Da Nang. Also at this space will be a picture showing off the process of gathering of ethnic groups in Da Nang, hereby forming the appearance of the current Da Nang residents.

On display at the third space will be the development of Da Nang during feudal periods, the French colonial period, the period of the Republic of Viet Nam, after 1975, over the 10 years since its liberation, and over 30 years of national renewal. Also, this space will display the city’s architecture and development planning, its traffic network, industries, trade and media.

Also, there will be artifacts, documents and models about the anti-French resistance war in Da Nang in 1847, and during the 1858-1860 period, along with the city’s struggle for national independence through Nghia Hoi and Duy Tan movements, patriotic movements of the early twentieth century, workers' struggles, the first Communist Party base in Da Nang, Da Nang and Quang Nam Party Committees during the 1930 – 1945 period, the city’s struggles under the leadership of the Party during the 1930-1945 period, the August Revolution of Viet Nam in 1945, the establishment of the revolutionary government of Da Nang, Da Nang in 30 years of war resistance to defend national independence and reunification, and in 117 years of fighting against foreign invaders during the 1858-1975 period, and the construction and development of the city.

In addition, the city’s typical historical events and figures, and heroic collectives and individuals during the city’s fights to defend the Fatherland and its construction will be introduced at this display space.

The fourth space will showcase the cultural features of minority ethnic groups in Quang Nam - Da Nang, and Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands regions. Also at the space, visitors can view documentaries on the development of seaport urban areas, marine ecology, the diversity of marine resources, imprints of Danang's marine culture, history of sea and island sovereignty, marine religions and beliefs, shipbuilding industry, boating and seafaring techniques, and culture of fishermen.

Visitors to the new museum will have the opportunity to learn about the city’s agricultural culture, agricultural traditions and indigenous inhabitants of Da Nang, local traditional craft villages, urban culture with urban lifestyle, business culture, and performing arts.

Moreover, the new Da Nang Museum will deploy exhibition contents in service of political, economic and cultural tasks according to local and national current affairs.
