Since he was assigned to take care of pigeons at the East Sea Park in 2010, Mr. Hai has considered them as his family relatives.
Every day, Mr. Hai feeds the pigeons at 7:30 am and then mixes preventive medicine and vitamins for them to drink. At around 4:30pm, he feeds them again.
“The pigeons quickly fly to gather for meals when they hear the whistling sound of Mr. Hai. I often check the number of birds through meals, in my opinion, there are more than 1,000 because many fly away around the city" said Mr. Hai.
Due to having been with the pigeons for a long time, Mr. Hai can realise their health conditions.
For example, a pigeon with ruffled feathers and an unusually large neck may be probably overfed by tourists. Meanwhile, one pigeon with unusual gait may have their legs injured by being bitten by other birds. Since there, Mr. Hai quickly knows how to deal with these problems.
Since its establishment in 2008, the Peace Bird Garden has become a highlight in the East Sea Park, thereby attracting more visitors to the city.
The Management Board has till date invested VND30 million into building 5 concrete pillars on which wooden pigeon houses are placed, and buying 200 breeding pigeons. The number of pigeons sometimes increases to 1,500.
Ms. Nong Thi Thuy Dung, a tourist from Ha Noi, expressed her excitement at the images of thousands of pigeons swooping down to eat rice.
Deputy Director of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beach Tran Dai Nghia highly praised Mr. Hai for his devotion to his job over the past 12 years He added Mr. Hai has always well fulfilled his assigned tasks regardless of unfavourable weather conditions.
The pigeons here are strictly protected. Those who steal pigeons will be fined 3 times their existing prices. |
According to Mr. Hai, the most important thing to protect the health of pigeons is to clean the cages thoroughly. If the cages are not clean, pigeons are very susceptible to diseases. |
