Da Nang students give strengths to children in Village of Hope
The VNUK Book Club of the Viet Nam - UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), the University of Da Nang, has presented many books and sports equipment to children who are being cared for at the Village of Hope on Dung Sy Thanh Khe Street, Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District.
The activity provided an opportunity for the club’s members to contribute youth to the development of society.
In addition to book donations, the club has organised many fun activities for the village’s children |
The donated books have been collected from the club-organised ‘Thu Sach - Mang Thu’ programme. The purpose of the programme is to spread reading culture among the village’s children, thereby helping them celebrate a warm Mid-Autumn Festival.
After more than a month of calling for book donations on the club's fanpage, more than 500 books have been collected such as textbooks, reference books, reading books, comics and some old books.
Club members have sold unusable books for buying teddy bears, candies, and sports equipment like balls, racquets, and skipping rope.
In addition to book donations, the club has organised many fun activities for the village’s children, including dancing and singing performances and a book cover drawing competition.
Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu, 12, from the Village of Hope, expressed her joy at the activities she took part in and the gifts she received. "I really love reading books, especially books about space and universe" Nhu said excitedly.
Like Nhu, Tran Bao Khanh Bang, 15, is very fond of reading books. Not only having more new books, Bang had funny moments with young students and his friends.
"Normally, the village is very quiet, but when young students come, the atmosphere is more cheerful and boisterous than usual" Bang added.

According to Ms. Le Phuong Thao, Deputy Director of the Village of Hope, the village is currently bringing up a total of 117 children, and they are living and studying as a family.
She highlighted the meaningfulness of the club’s book donation activity in adding a variety of books to the village, and helping the village save a lot of money for buying books of all kinds and school supplies for children before the new school year.
Dinh Thi Ngoc Anh, 21, who is the Chairwoman of the VNUK Book Club, said that through this activity, the club hopes to spread reading culture to the village’s children and encourage them to overcome their difficulties to gain good results in the new academic year.
“Hopefully, our activity will significantly contribute to appealing for more organisations to pay attention to disadvantaged children across the city, including those living in the Village of Hope” noted Anh.
