Private investment flows into performance events: effective way to meet locals' needs, attract tourists
Since the start of the year, many private units have chosen Da Nang to organise large and medium-sized art performances, creating a vibrant atmosphere, attracting tourists to this central Vietnamese hub. Not only does the presence of these programes bring diversity and richness to the city's cultural and artistic picture, but it also affirms Da Nang as an event hub of Central Viet Nam and Viet Nam and international arena at large.

Various privately-organised programmes
According to the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, 2022 is witnessing great efforts exerted by event and show organisers, and tourism businesses as a whole, to mobilise as many resources as possible to spur restoration and development. Therefore, since the beginning of the year, many businesses have chosen Da Nang to invest in organising cultural and artistic activities at a large scale and with diversified forms, hereby attracting a greta deal of attention from both locals and tourists.
Till date, the Department has given a nod to the organisation of more than 55 large and medium-sized art performance programmes organised by private entities. Notable among them are ‘The Rap Show’, ‘Take Me to the Sun’ music festival, the Sun Fest street carnival, the ‘Da Nang, wait for me’ music festival and live shows of the May Lang Thang (Wandering Clouds) programme.
Also, permission has been also given to 12 beauty and model contests organised by private entities.
In addition, the Department has joined hands with its partners and stakeholders to successfully organise many major cultural and artistic activities in the city such as the Viet Nam - Japan and Viet Nam - Korea festivals with the participation of many private entities, thereby contributing to creating more cultural values, diversifying activities, meeting the diversified tastes and interests of city dwellers and visitors.
As a quite famous and branded programme when making a mark in the tourist city of Da Lat in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, the shows of the May Lang Thang music programme have also been present in Da Nang since the middle of the year.
Mr. Vo Hoang Viet, Director of May Lang Thang Co., Ltd. said that the programme took place in Da Nang with more than 10 live shows. In regards to the reason the company decided to organise this highly popular programme in Da Nang, this central tourist hub is a dynamic, vibrant city attractive to many tourists, and it serves as a potential environment for the company’s future development strides.
On the other hand, residents in Da Nang loves the arts very much, as evidenced by the city's many cultural and artistic events that attract large audience.
When organising the programme in Da Nang, the municipal Department of Culture and Sports also enthusiastically granted licence and supported the company to successfully run the shows.
“In the coming time, May Lang Thang plans to organise some more music nights with the presence of many renowned domestic stars as Trung Quan, Hien Thuc and Trinh Thang Binh.
At the same time, importance will be attached to improving the quality of organisation, sound and light systems to better serve the public's demand for high-quality art enjoyment. We also want to develop May Lang Thang to become a familiar and attractive rendezvous for both residents and tourists when coming to Da Nang”, said Mr. Viet.
Create a vibrant, unique cultural environment
According to the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, the medium and large-scale programmes and events launched by private enterprises are highly inviting to locals and tourists, especially in the post-COVID-19 context when the demand for cultural and spiritual life is highly concerned and focused.
These events are often sponsored by brands, invested with methodical stage, sound and light systems and advanced technologies and the participation of famous artistes. Given these strengths, the events are of quite high quality and attract a large number of inhabitants and tourists.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh Duyen, a resident in Son Tra District said that she and her friends and relatives regularly participate in cultural and art programmes taking place in the city.
According to Ms. Duyen, the appearance of many programmes organized by the private sector from the beginning of the year until now has initially created a fresh and vibrant atmosphere in Da Nang.
“I think that, at this time, it is necessary to create the most favourable possible conditions for private units to organise performances, contributing to creating a fair competition to improve the quality of art activities in the city, thereby creating a vibrant cultural environment, in line with social trends and attracting tourists to the city", Ms. Duyen expressed.
According to Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Thi Hoi An, in order to effectively implement the project of organising special cultural events and festivals every year, in association with establishing a series of nighttime events, cultural festivals, her agency has always focused on promoting private entities in the field of events to diversify high-quality cultural and artistic activities, a positive step to attract even more tourists to Da Nang and creating positive commination effects for the sake of the city’s tourism industry.
“In the coming time, the Department will continue to preside over and coordinate with related sectors to call on more private entities to organise high-quality events to serve both locals and visitors. Also, the agency will advise the city leaders on relasing mechanisms and regulations to create openness and flexibility for the cultural and event environment while ensuring the strict compliance with regulations, thereby contributing to the development of comprehensive Da Nang culture and people in line with the trend of the current times," said Ms. An.
