Speaking at the ritual, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen said that the Quan The Am Festival originated from a pure Buddhist ceremony to honour the generosity, tolerance, compassion, and equanimity of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara.
The image of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara is associated with the world's Buddhist communities. She is respected and worshiped by the vast majority of Asian people as a kind mother with kindness, virtue, protection and help for sentient beings in distress.
According to Vice Chairwoman Yen, the festival’s organising board has made great efforts to make this year’s event more attractive so as to meet the needs of Buddhist followers and tourists at both home and abroad.
During the festival, the local historical and cultural values are conveyed to visitors, showing the national spirit, the harmony between the religion and the nation, and the love for the country.
The procession of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara was the most important solemn ritual in the Quan The Am Festival. Therefore, from early morning of March 10, thousands of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers, and tourists across the country made pilgrimages to the Quan The Am pagoda to attend the ceremony with sincere devotion to Avalokitesvara to pray for peaceful and prosperous nation.
In Buddhism, the day of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara is an occasion to remember the milestones in her life and enlightenment. That is the mind of a cultivator, a remembrance of the great merit of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, who always helps and is compassionate to all sentient beings in humanity.
