Viet Nam - France concert attracts over 1,100 people

Over 1,100 people attended the Viet Nam - France concert show at the Da Nang-located Trung Vuong Theatre on Thursday evening.

The event was jointly organized The Da Nang Union of Friendship Organisations and the Viet Nam-France Friendship Association, in collaboration with the Embassy of the French Republic in Viet Nam, the French Institute in Viet Nam, the French Institute in Da Nang and related agencies. 

In attendance at the event were Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh and Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities of the French Embassy in Viet Nam cum Director of the French Institute in Viet Nam Sophie Maysonnave.

In his speech, Vice Chairman Minh said that the concert aimed at celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and France (April 12) 10 years of establishing a strategic partnership between the two countries (September 9) and 41 years of World Music Day (June 21).

According to the Vice Chairman Minh, over the past half-century, the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and France has developed strongly. In Da Nang, activities to promote the bilateral friendship and cooperative ties have also made remarkable developments in recent years.

The imprints of French cooperation in Da Nang can be mentioned as the project to enhance the value of the Museum of Cham Sculpture, the building of the headquarters of the French club, the provision of equipment for Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted.

Da Nang has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Sens City and French businesses on cooperation in tourism development and the promotion of Da Nang’s image to French market and other European ones.

Along with that, the field of educational cooperation between the city and France is also constantly being promoted. Up to now, the city has sent 51 students to study in France at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The University of Da Nang has signed many joint training projects with French universities.

"The concert was not only interference between Eastern and Western cultures, but it also acted as a bridge to speed up the two countries' traditional friendship and cooperation more and more firmly.”, said Vice Chairman Minh emphasised.

The music show featured 21 art exchanges between Vietnamese and French artists, performed in pop and rock styles. Among them were six performances by artists from the Da Nang-located Trung Vuong Theater, candidates who won the Gold Medal at the city's Francophonie Singing Festival in 2023 and representatives of the Da Nang chapter of the Viet Nam - France Friendship Association.

At the same time, 16 French performances by French musician and singer Dorothée Hannequin, aka The Rodeo,  also impressed the audience.

Hannequin, whose mother is Vietnamese and father is French, discovered music at the age of 15. Her music style combines pop and rock and is inspired by Europop between the 1960s and 1970s, while the lyrics surprise fans with her unique feelings. She has also travelled around the world to seek inspiration for her songs.

Her famous songs include Ivre d’amour (Drunk with Love), Thérianthropie Paradis, Que Ma Mémoire Vive (That My Living Memory), and Cryogénie (Cryogenics).

She has toured in the US, Canada and Brazil, and across France and other European countries.

Hannequin is also known as an actress, a costume designer and a film producer. She has taken part in films such as When the Storm Is Over, and Dom Juan and Sganarelle.
