Man brings 'May Lang Thang' shows to Da Nang
From an empty space with a few small wooden chairs, Vo Hoang Viet, 38, has built the ‘May Lang Thang’ (Wandering Clouds) music stage, a new musical icon full of romance in Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong. Recently, when bringing ‘May Lang Thang’ to Da Nang, Viet made appropriate adjustments to bring such a diverse and new music space to the Da Nang people

Starting from a love of music and a passion for travel, 4 years ago, Viet decided to build a live band stage at a beautiful small homestay in Da Lat, with the desire to provide unique tourism products: tourism combined with listening to music, and serving business purposes.
Trying out a new type of business in Viet Nam, the trendsetter of the "listen to music at 4:30 p.m" motto said that he encountered many difficulties, from building scripts, exploiting music genres to finding types of music and bands and attract audience.
After a period of preparations, on July 27, 2019, the first ‘May Lang Thang’ show was born, attracting about 100 guests. At that time, a few knew about ‘May Lang Thang’, Viet and his teammates suffered loss in the first 4 shows because of lack of customers.
Fortunately, from the 5th show onwards, large crowds of audience started to come to the show, helping to create new habit of listening to music, never before: going to listen to music at 4:30p.m when the sunset has just fallen over the foggy city.
Currently, after quite successful branding period, the show makes its presence in many other provinces and cities such as Ha Noi, Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and each performance attracts nearly a thousand spectators.
Recently, from a modest stage in Da Lat, ‘May Lang Thang’ was first held in Da Nang. According to Viet, since the show arrived in Da Nang about one year ago, the show has had initial successes. Most shows were crowded with audience. “The audience watching May Lang Thang in Da Lat is mainly tourists, whereas in Da Nang, the audience is mainly local residents. Therefore, the schedule of performances in Da Nang cannot be dense and the singers are also constantly changed", Hoang Viet shared.
After a period of stable operation, ‘May Lang Thang’ has made a difference from the general music market. The organisers have focused on the quality of music and invited many famous singers at home and abroad to perform at the show.
Before each show in other provinces and cities, Viet directly selected a venue that matched the criteria: ‘strange - beautiful - unique and chill’. Therefore, when he arrived in Da Nang, he decided to set up the stage right on the banks of the Han River, helping the audience both enjoy music and admire the Dragon Bridge, one of the city's tourism symbols.
It can be said that, when coming to Da Nang, ‘May Lang Thang’ still retains the full characteristics of a rustic music stage where artists fully display their voices, techniques and performance skills to bring the best experience of listening to the most emotional, authentic music for the audience.
Not to mention, ‘May Lang Thang’ in Da Lat starts the "trend" of listening to music in the afternoon whilst a similar show in Da Nang take place in the evening to better suit the daily activities and fun of the city's people at weekends. In addition, in the summer, the show in Da Nang is performed on an outdoor stage, and in the rainy season, it is moved to the hotel lobby.
According to Viet, after one year of operation in Da Nang, ‘May Lang Thang’ has won trust and great support from a large number of audience. The man always keeps in his mind that he must always try to build a quality music programme that is much loved by the audience and it would not fall into oblivion.
