Keeping alive the art of 'ly' singing among Co Tu people
The People's Committee of Hoa Bac Commune coordinated with the Culture and Information Office of Hoa Vang District to organise a ‘ly’ singing class for 40 Co Tu people living in two villages of Ta Lang and Gian Bi. ‘Ly’ is a folk singing genre of the Co Tu ethnic people.
The purpose of the class is to improve the capacity of Co Tu people involving community-based tourism, as well as preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of the Co Tu people.
The class is expected to last for 2 months under the teaching of two village elders Ha Van Tam and Bui Van Sieng, who have experience singing ‘ly’ in Hoa Bac Commune.
The training content focuses on the repartee rhythms and how to perform the folk singing genre.
Authorities in Hoa Bac Commune hope that, in the near future, the folk singing genre will be included in the community-based tourism programme to promote ‘ly’ folk singing, and create income for the Co Tu people.
